Hey guy's my gauges are not working. No speedo, tach, engine temp and my blower is not working. Fuel gauge is working but none of the red lights at the bottom of the cluster are working. ALl of the fuses are good. Brake light's,hazard's, turn's, headlight's all work. Any ideas. Is there a relay somewhere that I'm not aware of?

Take apart your cluster and go from there, could be something up with your plugs. Check that the screws are in all the way. And just keep looking around and I am sure you'll fine whats up.

Also try borrowing a friends guages, and if theiers works its your cluster, if ti doesnt its either the wiring (the main harness could not be in all the way).

Just play around for a while and I am sure you'll figure it out.

hey kid this is a car I just bought and the guy had blown the motor and dropped another ka in but he did not hook anything up. well I got everything hooked up, but it had a blown alt fuse the 75amp one in the engine bay. I replaced it fixed a couple other things and car fired up. Then the other day while working on it the gauges quit working. Checked the fuse panel several fuses were blown. He had removed the stereo and left some bare wires so i thought maybe that's why the fuses blew and gauges not working. I secured the bare wires and I replaced the fuses but gauges still didn't work. Car was running funny so I checked fuse box in the engine bay and the 75amp was blown again. Fixed it but gauges still don't work.
Do you think I messed up my gauge cluster. I have had the cluster out all my connectors are in. I don't know where to look next.

OK so you went through and checked everything is plugged in? And the only thing on your cluster that works is the fuel gauge?

Your best bet is to first try and locate someone in the area with the same car/engine. Then test thier guages. That will most definately give you a better clue as to where the problem is coming from.

What car (year) do you have? And what engine was put in.

If you had an sohc and swapped in a dohc (or vice versa) this might be a problem. Not sure if the clusters can be used on a diff motor.

There is a 240SX FSM or something like one out there that says how to test each gauge. I don't remember where I found it but I'll check for you.

That way you can test each part of the guages, but I highly doubt it has to do with the acutal guages. Seems more of a wiring problem since all of them are not working. Could be your connectors are messed up. But that doesnt explain why the fuel gauge works.

Plus you said a few other things don't work. Did you do all the wiring on the eninge or di the person who swapped the new KA do it? Cuz a lot of things are not working, could all be due to the wiring.

http://www.noand.com/~masterman/90FSM.zip

There should be a bunch of files in there. One of em should tell you how to test the guages.

hey dynomite thanks for the suggestions, the thing is the gauges were working. It is a 1990 240 with a sohc KA24e. I just plugged everything in I didn't rewire it or anything. There are still 3 thing's under the hood that need to be hooked up. (1) is the o2 sensor(I can't find the connector anywhere "weird" (2) a yellow/white wire by fusebox/intake manifold (3) a white round connector with a male end on it. It comes out of the harness at about the middle of the firewall. I thought it might connect to the o2 sensor but it won't reach so I don't know what it is. But I don't think any of these are the reason my cluster won't work because it did work until I blew those fuses. Thanks again, I'm going to check out that link you posted. I'll let you know how it goes. Doug
