What the hell is it. It almost looks like the outer race of a ball bearing? Just got the engine from Japan it looks great then I found this... S14 SR

Timing chain guide maybe? There'd probably be more than just that though.

I had a similar problem on my KA. It was the timing chain guide (the fixed one, not the one that is adjustable). Apparently, all stock KA's came with crappy plastic guides, and then Nissan issued replacement metal ones.

Maybe this is the same case with the SR?

Wanna use something for a size reference next to the pieces so we have an idea how big or small it is? Its not a rocker arm considering how small it is. Also, is it metal or plastic?

i think theres probably more pieces to this puzzle.. open it up and see

Yeah my guess was gonna be Rocker Arms. Take off valve cover and post a pic.

Those are tiny ass fucking peices. Look at the background, that is his hand! Man you got some intense lines on your hand such an epic picture of it. Anyways yeah, the answer to what that is, there is probably more of it hiding from you

those are some small pieces. check the turbo as well, if it cam with one.

*Did you use a tripod to snap that pic? whatever camera you used is badass. Didnt realized it was the palm of ur hand til i actually paid attention to it.

I thought the background was a piece of wood.

Defiantly not a rocker.

There in my hand so their pretty small. It's metal.
I thought the background was a piece of wood.
Hahaha
Im going to take off the valve cover when I get home tonight to further investigate.
I made a quick crude Paint of what it must have looked like as one peice

what kinda oil pan did it have? was it aftermarket? and what kinda camera do you have?

Ceepo

looks like it could be teeth off of a cam gear, but those look to small, im so curious as to wtf this is, i never saw anything like that in my sr20 when i rebuilt it...

Looks like pieces of a ball bearing cage. It could be from the turbo center section and worked its way down the oil drain line. A friend of mine once bought an s14 turbo from the fs section and took it to a local shop to check it out. The bearing cage was gone and all the balls were free to contact each other.

man if it was an S13 I would almost say it looks like the journal bearing out of the T25
The holes seem smaller though
(this is a smaller bearing than the T25's)

rebornS14

so far that looks to be the closest. i guess it could go from the oil return to the pan.

Its metal.

Could be the CHRA's Bearings from the turbo since the S14 uses Ball bearings.

Check the turbo for shaft play

Sounds like it is the turbo, slipped my mind lol...

yea def looks like the bearing race from a BB turbo..

All those chunks could've caused some oil starvation... You may want to check your rod bearings and whatnot for damage.

Who did you get the engine through?

!Zar!
07-15-2010, 02:18 PM
Does that really matter? It's not like they take the engine apart and do a 100pt inspection.

They pretty much just get some junkyard engines, throw it on a boat, and ship it over.

I was leaning tward turbo bearing race also, however the turbo has 0 shaft play and spins excellent. I did notice though that one of the studs on the compressor housing was broken off (1 out of 2 on compressor inlet) and that I can tell the bolts have been removed before, that bolt it to the manifold.

So it's a "possibility" it could be bearing race from an old turbo that blew and was replaced. But I really don't think that it's from the turbo, reason being is because in every turbo no matter the miles I've seen, had bronze colored bearing races and were not as shallow. This piece I know for sure, is metal, was circular, was approx 1/4'' tall, and was roughly the circumference of a dime.

You've described a Journal bearing turbo bearing.

Ball bearing turbos are metal, If you look at the inside area of it you will see that its tapered, like where a ball bearing will sit.

Makes a lot of sense that the old turbo blew and was replaced

I was under the impression S14 turbos are brush/journal bearing and not ball bearing, only S15 were ball bearing. This is the # to whats on there now 14411-69F00 466541-7001

Also. This is a ball bearing cartridge
http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/i29/2986_12lo.jpg
Upon further inspection it cant be it because these pieces have bearings close together like a skateboard bearing like this

Ive yet to see a T28 journal bearing turbo, The only T28 turbo that ive seen that was journal bearing was the Pulsar GTI-R Turbo

But whatever, Ive torn SR's completely apart and never seen anything like what you've found. Probably Just FOD.

When I detonated my S14 T28 on track, compressor side siezed, I found similiar metal pieces in my oil pan... I just assumed it was part of the center section of the turbo...

How is the CAS top bearing? But I have no idea how it could have fallen into the front cover.

You should do a FOD walk around your engine and see if you can find anything else
