View Full Version : Awfully slow 1/4 mile times with SR20

I just got my SR up and running on Thursday and on Friday I took it to the track and I only ran a 15.9 at 89.98 MPH. Does anyone know why I could be this slow? I mean it could be my timing I do backfire evevy once and a while. And my car doesn't have a line hooked up from the BOV outlet to my intake because there isn't any. That I think is the reason my car stalls when it is started.

the driver sucks.

no seriously.. give us more info.. list ALL the mods you running a pure stock setup? LSD? street tires? give us more info. yes an atmospheric BOV can cause some stalling on downshifting and slowing down but that wont affect 1/4 mile times.

Vacuum leaks, timing, not boosting, many things, It could even be the driver. What were your reaction times, and 60 foot time, is it auto or stick. More info please.

It is feasible that with a completely stock setup, you will run 15's...

205 crank horsepower is about 165-170 whp.. plus its 10yrs old.. 150whp...

you can see where I'm going.

Not high 15s, though. Completely stock setup should be around 15.0... but who runs a completely stock setup? He's got an aftermarket BOV, probably exhaust...

Get a BOV that allows you to recirc. I don't know why they sell non-recirc BOVs, to be honest. Oh, yeah, people like to go PFFFT!

But that wouldn't be the cause of this sort of performance deficit.

If the car seems to be running well, examine your launch technique and shift points. With an SR you should be shifting much higher than you did with the KA. What was your 60' time?

You should change the nut behind the steering wheel.

jk man, I agree we need more info on your setup to get to the root of this problem.

It's gotta be the monza exhaust and ADR rims.

I have to double clutch in my car sometimes cause the syncros are getting all worn out. But you only ever have to double clutch on downshift, not on upshift... who downshifts in a drag race?

that movie is retarded :hammer:

Well for starters I said I just got the car up and running the day before. So yes I am not used to the new tranny and power levels yet. My reaction time was .818 the first time that I ran the 15.9 and the second time was .949 that I ran the 16.0. My 60' time was 2.7 both times. My engine is competely stock exept for my HKS BOV. And I am only running a 2.5" exhaust with it. "I know I need to go bigger." I think I just need to run my car more and get used to it.

Oh and I have the base model 240. With no LSD, power windows etc. And I was running with low profile tires. I know all I did was spin off the line in 1st. I have to get some grippies. And I have a 5 speed.

In my opinion a persons reaction time tells me I fthey are a rookie at the track or not, and trust me rookies dont run good times with fast cars right away. They have to get used to the track, and the way the car grips on a diffrent surface. Everytime I went i seemed to get better, eventually my times, and ET's stopped improving, since .500-.600 is pretty damn good. All Im saying is he will get better, sorry for the long drawn out response.

what kinda tires do you have right now? instead of sticky tires I would get lsd, it would be easier to get a better launch with lsd. 2.7 in 60' is terrible. the better the launch the better the 1/4 time.

2.7 is a horrible 60', i got 2.371 my first time at the track with a KA

you mentioned you had a BOV, do you still have the stock recirc valve on? if so, that could be causing some issues

you installed it thursday then were running at the track the day after? I hope you gave it some miles to settle a little bit, seeing as how the motor has probaly been sitting around for a few years.

oh yeah, clutch slipping a little maybe as well? since you said all stock

you can see where I'm going.

Actually being 10 years old could help it, the carbon deposits could up the compression :o

Yall had asked him if it was auto or not. Ok my 240's auto, and I'm planning on taking it down to the drag strip on the 1st with everyone from the convention. Can anyone give me any pointers on getting a good time out of a auto? It shouldn't have an lsd, but the only time I was horsing around with it since I got the motor done I tried power braking it and the whole back end swung around to the right side like both tires were spinning and it over powered my front brakes, so I'm thinking power braking at the line is out of the question. I was down at bike week when I did it and almost ran over a few bikers. Any help would be good.

Plus the bearing clearances have loosened up reducing the friction...

rufry, what you want to do is, when you are waiting for the tree to light up put your foot on the brake and rev to about 1500-2000rpm(just before you feel the tires break loose is a perfect rpm), then when it turnes green dont floor just give it about half throotle until you feel the boost rising then floor it. Now you can start out in first gear and shift it yourself or you can let the auto do it, I found shifting it yourself yeilds better results. If you are wondering why you shouldnt floor it right away, just try it both ways and you will find out why. Hope this helps.

WTF kind of FNF ***-talking is this? Double-clutching an upshift?

Like everyone mentioned before, 2.7s 60' time sucks. That still doesn't rule out that your engine is out of tune.
