is there any point in this. ive got a 97 and i just bought a swap out of a 95. i dont wanna mess with drilling the hole for the cas sensor on top of the tranny and i heard it was useless anyway besides the fact that it'll throw a CEL.
im just double checking, i've read it didnt effect anything but just wanna make sure.

You sure you got a tranny out of a 95? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought S14 transmissions all have the hole in the bell housing for the CAS. I know S13 ones don't, so when I bought an S13 tranny to replace mine I had to drill one because I can't stand if my CEL is on. Looking back on it, I wish I would've just waited and got an S14 tranny :-/

there is a very few early s14's, a certain production date from 1995 that did not have the CAS.

If you dont have to worry about any kind of inspection (smog), I'd just fucking pull the cell bulb out of the cluster.
Thats what I did with my 97 after the sensor got crushed after changing the clutch.

No, there is not. EVERY S14 has the crank position sensor in the bellhousing.

If you have a check engine line on...its automatic fail. You cant pop the bulb off to try to cheat the system because they will check for the bulb before they test you. If it doesnt turn on...automatic fail. This gets worst if you have a kouki since its OBD-II and they will plug into the scanner to smog your car. That shit will basically narc on you...

Not quite...California likes money. Smog is about money not about the air.
Now about the CAS...just drill the hole. It is not that hard. Just make sure when you install the CAS that it does not hit the flywheel. You may need to put a spacer under the sensor.

Its really that big of a deal to you guys? Drill it out, tap some threads, shim it up, done. Im using an s13 trans in my 1998 without a CEL. its really not that difficult to do things white.. err, right.
The hardest part is getting the shim/spacer the right thickness so the sensor reads but doesnt touch.

Doesnt cali have an emissions exempt rule?
In my state, if you drove your car under 5000 miles the previous year, you can get an emissions exemption sticker. So for those of us with SR's or CEL's, that means swapping gauge clusters for inspection.
It boggles my mind that cali is like the MECCA of car modifying (and pretty much everything else thats cool... motocross, weed, etc, lol), but they make it so impossible to modify your car. Honestly if i lived in cali, id probably be driving a bone stock camry or something. :(
