a description of the swag.
1993 240SX SE coupe, 5-speed, Ultra White. Current Mileage is 155,800. Loaded with HUD, power windows, locks, moonroof. Exterior and interior very clean and good shape for the car's age (there are a few dings & chips outside and a few stains inside, but IMO better than average condition). Bought the car April '02 with 125k. In the past year I have done a fair bit of work to it: new driveshaft, timing chain replaced (upper guide broke), new KYB GR-2 shocks, new brakes last fall, all rear suspension bushings replaced with Whiteline polyurethane, new OEM T/C rods with Whiteline bushings (from PDM), new Moog tie rod ends, fixed HUD electronics (common solder joint issue), Kenwood CD player and Infinity Kappa speakers all round. The suspension work alone including parts cost me almost $1200, the only rubber parts left now are the rear subframe (spacer rings on there) and front LCA bushings. I also swapped in S14 manual front seatbelts, with a bit of custom work. Tires are Dunlop SP Sport A2 on the stock 7-point alloys, two almost new and two with I estimate about 50% tread left. The windshield was cracked by an errant rock on the highway, so I am going to get it replaced before selling. Overall the chassis and body are straight and rust-free.
Now, the fatal problem: it leaks oil. The leak is originating from the oil pan and possibly also from the front cover, which means the engine has to be removed to fix it. Just fixing it would not be worthwhile at this mileage. It's manageable at about 1qt per week or less, and I've been driving it this way since the winter. However I'm at the point where mentally, I need to fix it or give it up.
It does have a couple of other small problems: Syncros in the transmission are fairly worn, particularly first and third gear; though not really worse than one would expect for a car of this mileage. Also the moonroof leaks a little bit only when it rains <i>hard</i> - and then a corner section of the trim ring will soak up and sometimes start to drip. It has a small crack in the rubber weatherstrip, which could probably be patched with something, or you could just buy a whole new lid and replace it (which is very very easy to do - under 30 minute job even for a slowpoke like me).
This car would be a great project candidate, or a reliable daily driver the way it is (perhaps while you prepare to take it apart). It's very very solid mechanically, as long as you keep the oil level up.
Price is $2500 firm. Considering the condition and how much I've put into it, it's just not worth it to me taking any less.
