View Full Version : Broken Axle; Cant Remove Lock Nut HELP!

I broke the passenger side axle inner cv joint completely apart in my s13. I'm having an impossible time removing the 36mm axle lock nut because my e-brake doesn't work and the axle just spins when I try to break the nut loose.
I tried using impact wrench, a pipe wrench to keep the axle from spinning with no luck, putting wood under a wheel stud to keep it from spinning but it just lifts up the whole suspension, and other ridiculous methods including hammers, etc.
Anyone run into this problem? suggestions? I feel stupid but I need HELP! please and thankyou. :Ownedd:

You could have someone sit in the car and press the brakes while you try to loosen the nut.

I would suggest drilling a hole in the axle (radially like: (hub)===o= ) if you still have some to work with, insert steel rod to stabilize impact gun.
Or slot the axle and try your damnedest to fit something in the slot to stop it from spinning.
Drill the whole damn thing out is your only other option IMO.
Lol shit man that sucks balls.
ok so it has no more axle from hub CV joint death yes?
Get another axle and see if it'll go into old CV joint to stabilize

-Put the wheels back on the car
-Drop it to the floor
-Put wheel chocks on
-Grab a jack handle and put it on the breaker bar
Enjoy.

your gonna need a bigger boat.
torch that shit and expand it??
whats the psi on the impact?
forget what it looks like, but i have been known to cut down nuts, just outside the bolt threads.
Do it on opposite sides, then grab it with a pipe wrench and it will come right off, lol.

heat
pb blast
mad torque on the gun
try tightening and loosening it a few times with the impact gun
use fat extentions and leverage.

I'm going with your impact gun is not up to the task. I find a lot are over rated. I got a free one with my compressor that couldn't take the nut off the crank pulley. Certainly couldn't handle a axle nut.

Thanks guys, I can't believe I didn't think of leaving the car on the ground, d'oh.
Also, does anyone know if 1995 j30 passenger side axles are longer than stock s13 axle? it seems to be way longer but I was under the impression that the 6 bolt ones were interchangeable. no? yes?

It is longer, but doable. But 240sx are all over junkyards and you should be able to find one easily.

how so? It seems to stick out past the fender when it's lined up with the differential output shafts...

I had a S13 with J30 vlsd and axles before. I used J30 axles because the unit was 5 bolt.

Sup Bro, I'm in Delaware and I go to the gym fairly often. You need me to come to Maryland and f*ck some sh*t up?

Nope, I need you to get a protein enema stat!
So I guess j30 axles will work but they are longer than stock s13 axles. I have stock s13 diff but I could NOT find a stock replacement so I went for the j30 at the junkyard(wtf no 240's but they have infiniti's??). I ended up getting autozone special replacement because I didn't want to fuck up the j30 stuffing it in there.
Anyways, I fixed it today, and I <3 you guys
