im looking for a 240sx, the s13 version.

I know there are 2 different generations... im looking at swapping in a red top sr20det right away.

what would be the best year of the s13 to purchase?
im looking at a 1990 for $1,500 right now and I think it is a decent buy. Im looking to not spend a lot on the car because I plan to change the suspension, engine, interior, and body all within a year or two. ive heard the 1989 do not have power steering along with a few other convience things... i want these most likely.

also, what should i look for when I goto search for the car? what are common problems that will lead to lots of money in the future with these cars?

They'll ahve power steering... you just need to fins the power steering lines from a 91-94 240sx...... The 89-90 240sx are single cam and the power steering and a/c lines don't line up right with the SR20det.... Since the Sr20DET is twin cam and the 91 up engiens are twin cam.... they match up...

so then i should look for a '91+ 240?
i want an easy swap when the time comes

Rust. Anything else can be fixed easily.

It's easier to swap power steering lines and tachs on a nice clean '89-'90 than it is to fix a messed up body or interior on a '91-'93.

Buy the newest, cleanest 240SX you can afford and worry about the swap details later.

well, how bad does rust get on a 240sx?

my buddy with a crx had a cracked lower control arm mount and had a lot of rust, right through the rear quarters (typical honda rust, but gone wild).. his quote on body work was $1200

i plan to add a aero kit, and some flashy black paint, so i dont think rust is something huge to worry about -- unless its a rust bucket special all over or something...

The 89-90 power steering works fine with an SR swap. I don't know why people keep perpetuating that myth.

The only real difference is the tach. For a swap it doesnt matter what s13 you get. Annother thing is if you get an auto 240, you will need lines, m/c, petals.

I thought you needed to move the PS res. to the left (driver side) on the SR swap from an 89-90 due to the hose situaltion.

One thing for sure (a little off topic) don't put regular PS fluid in a nissan, must be atf dextron fluid. Mine now leaks because of this and made me feel like a dumbas$ for doing reg PS fluid.

ATF= automatic transmission fluid.

Yes you do have to move the resovoir on an 89-90 but its easy. And you would have to even with a 91+ powersteering line. Basicly the only difference is a 91+ has less slack in the high pressure line when used with an SR and 89-90 has an extra piece that your throw away.

Power steering fluid=power steering fluid.

I THINK different cars use different kinds of fluid.
