So how come when you eat tortilla chips, your temples/jaw muscles or whatever feel weird? I was just talking to someone and we started to wonder about that lol.

I love me some tortilla chips btw.. but even eating a small bowl of them and this happens lol

because your joint is worn wrong. reasearch TMJ. It is still fairly new, as most dentist/chiropractors/doctors know little to nothing about it.

Yeah, I pop my jaw once in a while, it stays sore as hell for a few days. My dentist says it's because I predominately chew with one side of my mouth.

your dentist is a fucking idiot and should be put down for making that assumption.

look up tmj. That is exactly what you have the second you said "popping". but be very weary, as when I worked in the dental field studying TMJ, there were maybe 10 dentists in CA that new what they were doing...the other 100...assumed they knew.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporomandibular_joint_disorder

and lets just say....if you are already in pain...imagine when you are 60 years old....and that joint is no longer there....then there won't be any popping...it'll just be bone on bone grinding...very painful.

Let me clarify, my dentist told me it might be TMJ when I told him i popped my jaw, he starts to ask me questions and when I tell him I chew predomimnately with my right side he says that could be one of the reasons. He didn't automatically assume. But yeah I now try to chew with both sides equally and it doesnt happen that much.

I had TMJ a few years ago. My fine-ass dentist homegirl diagnosed me... lol

It hurt to chew at first, but now I barely notice it. I can just feel my jaw kinda... unhinging... on the right side of my mouth when I open up real wide.

Has nothing to do with tortilla chips though...lol

so its common for people to experience this right?

It's becoming more and more common. It affects more girls than guys though. I think the fact that there's no exact solution to it gives docs room to breathe, so they're more likely to point and call TMJ, who knows. Of course there are also people who read an article and self diagnose themselves.

I hate when the chips stab the roof of my mouth, and a little piece of the chip breaks off and gets stuck.

Or when a piece of a tortilla chip magically finds its way in between a tooth and your gums.

I love tortilla chips.

I've never felt this sensation whilst eating chips.
you bringing this up is a little weird to me at least.

perhaps there's something else giving the weird sensation?
maybe it's the dip/salsa/whatever other foodstuffs you have w the chips?
If it's the chips, maybe it's the specific brand?
Try some organic chips from Trader Joes and see how it goes.

it just happens with tortilla chips,.. i guess its the repeated movement that we re-adjust our jaw when eating them. Other chips is fine, just these.

You're obviously doing it wrong than.

Try breaking the chip before you eat it, and dipping it in an organic compound softener (preferably salsa).

Tuning the chip is the most important part.

I do..lol..mostly when its cold though, just close your mouth and stretch you chip as far upwards as possible.. itll stretch the muscle and go away..
WTF does tortilla chips have to do with sore jaw anyways..lol
sounds so dumb..it could be any food if you have that condition.

YES!!! It feels like my chin is popping out to the right, and sometimes I cant get it to go back for like a minute... AND IT FREAKING HURTS, LIKE A MO' BIH!!! It doesn't happen all the time, just every once in a while when I yawn really big. I was wondering why the hell it does that... I thought I was the only one.
Back on topic: Maybe it's from eating too much tortilla chips... lol :)

tmj is a very very common problem, that people just put to the side as a sore. If you open your mouth wide, and it "pops/clicks" the "disk" is sliding out, and the popping sound is the disk actually sliding out from in between the bone. some people had it while opening, some people have it only when closing their mouth..some have both....some have it on only one side. most common problems are sore jaw, waking up in the morning with a sore jaw, pain after chewing for a while...( chips are just another chewing method)...if you cannot open your mouth very well after eating, you may have fatigue in your muscles...there is beyond studies done....i wouldn't say you had it, if you didn't mention the largest most common tmj problem....popping.

I don't know if you can find videos about it, but I remember seeing the video of different problems, and it looks extremely painful, and really the only thing they can do at this moment, is strengthen your jaw, to keep it more in place....but then again that was almost 10 years ago, so it may have had great breakthroughs.

oh, and headaches specifically in the lower back of your head, have relation to dental pain....teeth, joints, etc...relate to surprising a large portion of your body...and it works hand in hand with chiropractics. please go see a specialist.

if you put pressure on your jaw, right where your cheek bone meets, and you put pressure there, open your mouth really wide, and close it, you may be able to feel it slide out....the right side of my jaw, slides out everynow and then, and i can push it back in place. usually hurts for another day or two after that.

lol...yes....some people that have had it for a long time....can't even open their mouth but wider than 2-3 inches...

people...i'm not a doctor, or a dentist, I only worked in the field, and I specialized in it...diagnosis can only be done by a professional...so if what I have mentioned sounds like it applies to you, get it checked....

I no longer work in this field.....but be skeptical, and get second opinions...

also....ringing in the ear...is another symptom...
