Rush Garage
So I traded my ek civic hatch for my current 1995 s14 in late 2009. I have always wanted a 240 and I finally have one after years of searching. This is my first and only 240sx. My pops has a 280z with 35k original miles.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/240sxwhenfirstbought.jpg
I have never done a full build or anything to this caliber or detail before so I may do things a little unorthadox but it has been turning out pretty decent so far...
About a week after I traded my car, I was sitting at a stop sign and some kid thinkin hes speed racer came flying around the corner. He came through my lane and caught the front of my car on the side of his saturn.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Photo0251.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Photo0256.jpg
Afterwards, he admitted to the cop that he cut the corner to sharp, hit me and was speeding...when he talked to the insurance people, he said that I hit him. So for me sitting at a stop sign, I was awarded 40% of the fault because "I should have seen him coming." lol, ok.
I roughly received around 1900 for the damages to my car...With that, I bought some new parts.
Kouki front end

Tein Basic Coilovers(will be changed...don't worry)
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Photo0264.jpg
Cusco Spin Knob
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Knob.jpg
So I put all of the above on. The kouki front had a shattered drivers headlight and a smashed up passenger fender from the previous owner sliding off the road and hitting a sewer. I ended up buying a fender from nissan(was not cheap even with my body shop discount) and a headlight off ebay.

my buddies s2k in the back
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Photo0456.jpg
I put the exhaust on and replaced the old shitty thing that was supposedly called an exhaust system.lol. I also put the E-brake knob on. Didn't do to well since I changed my brake pads and noticed that my passenger ebrake cable was snapped... :(
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Photo0345.jpg
I also started gathering parts over the winter to install.

I also got a Mishimoto Radiator

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0223.jpg
I ended up installing the steering wheel and the radiator. My buddies brother busted his radiator so I sold him my stock one and threw my new one on.

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0212.jpg
After that stuff, I started on the rust and remodeling work. I had some mean rust underneath my back left drivers seat mount.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0379.jpg
I was going to try and keep the seat mount but I saw this so decided to get rid of it all
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0385.jpg
After I cut it out...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0383.jpg
And then I began to bend some 16ga. steel up and started welding it in.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0418.jpg
Its not the best but it holds very well
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0466.jpg
I put the seat in and marked where the mount needed to be. The new floor pan was almost the perfect height.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0173.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0175.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0177.jpg
I also picked up a new nut and welded it to a square of 16ga. Once I had the hole drilled, I threaded the nut on and welded the plate into position.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0179.jpg
I also have some rust on my rocker panel...which I cut out but haven't fixed yet.lol
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0156.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0157.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0162.jpg
And the aftermath...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0164.jpg
By this time, I had found a good deal on an Origin Streamline Aero kit so I went ahead and picked it up.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0440.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0449.jpg

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0453.jpg
The front went on pretty well, the sides and back are a different story. I still need to finish them up. A little bit of cutting and fiberglass work...But I did get the new grill on for a sneek peek
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0416-1.jpg
I also picked up some POR-15 rust preventative paint, marine clean and metal ready for the interior one finished.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0499.jpg
And here is my Greddy Type S BOV awaiting a turbo
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0502.jpg
And some SS brake lines I picked up from AMS Motorsports for the cheap
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0503.jpg
I know this is alot of pictures of parts but I am waiting on finishing up the body before putting the goodies on for the most part.
I have been thinking of getting a steering quickener but haven't decided on it completely yet.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/steeringquickener.jpg
I did manage to build my Power Brace tho...

I started taking off all of the suspension parts, brakes and hubs for my new brake and hub setup

and some extended studs
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/ExtendedStuds.jpg
for my fresh POR-15 painted hubs
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/5LugHubPainted2.jpg
And after getting that stuff off, I found yet some more rust...Yay
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Body-FrontDriversRust.jpg
I decided to just go ahead and go all out...so I pulled my front end and starteed pulling the engine harness and all the little stuff to pull the motor. I also pulled all of the interior out to finish the sound deadening removal and stitch welding.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Body-FrontDriver.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0872.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_0873.jpg
Again, this is my first time so the stitch welds and everything isn't perfect but its going pretty well I think
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld6.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld2.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld7.jpg
I finished all of the inside besides the firewall and the trunk. Once the motor is out, I will most likely be tubbing the front and I will stitch weld everything up there too.
I pulled all of the wires out of the car.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/240%20parts/Interior-HarnessRemoved.jpg
And was left with this...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/240%20parts/InteriorHarnessandFenderHarness.jpg
I will be doing a full tuck and fuse box relocation, battery in the back, full interior/exterior paint job, remove and redo undercoating, put good sound deadening back in and I am planning either a v8 or rb swap...This is all for today but I will update shortly.:fruit:lol. thats just funny lookin

Great work so far! Glad to see you're not planning to cut corners with your build!

07-09-2010, 10:34 PM
2jz > 1jz > RB all day.... lots of reasons why too. On the JZ engines, the turbo sits on passenger side, keeping your brake master cyl and clutch master away from the heat.

Did you get the Brackets for your EVO brakes? depend on bracket, You might need bigger rotors than stock EVO size.. I have cross/drilled stcok EVO size rotors and I got the brackets from person from here zilvia. but calipers sit further than the way it should be..
I would say,,, at least 1/4" ? I am going to change brake pads soon, so I will post pics of uneven worn pads.

No. I haven't gotten my brackets yet. I was thinking of gettin the skunkworks ones but I could always have some made

what are you doing with the gold "mesh" wheels??
I will be selling them. I had them on a local forum for 250. A few people interested but no one with cash. I need to get some 17's or bigger for the new brakes.
I am def. not cutting corners. I have had cars that were cheaply built and after all the work of gettin this car, I will not do that to it. I bought this car with the intention of building a full drift car but its nice having a car that you love so I have decided to build it as a dd but reliable and capable enough to take to the track.
That is the reason behind trying to fix every little issue from the beginning. I haven't fully decided on an engine yet but a buddy of mine has an lq4(ls2 with steel block) for 250 that needs heads that I may pick up. The one thing that I want to keep is my a/c. This is the first car I have had with it and I don't want to get rid of it now.lol
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I will try to update as often as possible.
As far as the car work over the weekend goes, I finished the stitch welding in the trunk with exception of a couple rust sections I have to fix. I will update with pics once I fine my SD Card.
I also picked up a section of 1'x1' square tubing that I will be using to make my own fender brace. I was having some trouble with the sand I picked up from home depot for my sandblaster being to wet so I scattered it across my garage floor and put a fan on it so I will be updating with picks of that progress also. Sorry for all the words.lol

So as I have been sitting at my desk, bored like usual...I have been looking on youtube and other websites and two things came to my attention.
I found these that I want and will probally be getting when I get payed.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/240%20parts/wilwoodsetup.jpg
The only thing that I am questioning is if I install these, can I eliminate my brake booster? I have never even thought of using these before but I think it would be good to have so please, let me know.
I also found this on youtube under my recomendations...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/240%20parts/powdercoatinggun.jpg
This is the eastwood powdercoating gun. I think I may pick this up to do my own small parts so I wont have to pay out the ass and can have things done on my time schedule.
And last but not least, I found some pics of my old civic. It's not the best but it was a fun car to drive...Enjoi

If anyone has any info on the brake/clutch pedal setup, please inform me
conrad_s13.5
07-12-2010, 01:44 PM
if those pedals come with their own cylinder ( believe they do ) then yes you can eliminate ur BMC,.. as long as all lines are basically ran the same.
build is legit man,. i kno what its like,.....lol
so if ya have any questions just ask

everything your doing to the car is right, u wanna know where u killed it? going kouki front end. Should of kept it Zenki.
stockbee
07-12-2010, 09:12 PM
I'll second that. But to each his own. Nothing looks more normal. I think the kouki doesn't match the body lines of rear of the car, just me.
Keep up the good work. Congratulations on having the cajones to get a rusty car and fix it. That's awesome.
bllabong89
07-13-2010, 03:09 PM
Yea, they have their own cylinders. I was just wondering if I could eliminate the brake booster(if thats what its called) with it because I want to clean up my bay and it looks alot cleaner with out that big ass round thing there.
Yea, I am more of a kouki guy. I just like how it looks angry. The zenki front just looks to much like an old grandmas car.lol

07-19-2010, 11:17 AM
So I sold my turbo that I have had sitting around and I found some goodies on craigslist.
I got some Greddy Gracer side skirts for 100 with no cracks and painted to match(even tho I will most likely change my car color). The guys car that I got them from was the sickest "old folks gold" s14 I have seen. I hope my car looks as clean as his when I'm done.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1126.jpg
I also ran some sand thru the sand blaster and found that I will be buying actual abrasive blasting media because the fine grade sand I tried was not fine enough.lol
On another note, I am finishing up the stitch welding and will start on my rear wire harness to eliminate and clean things up

Heres a little bit of an update. I worked on the trunk last night trying to finish up the stitch welding. I am almost done, not including the engine bay and firewall yet tho.
Here is some rust that I need to fix still
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld11.jpg
And here is a pic of the passenger side after I finished all the welds up
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld12.jpg
And here is the trunk stuff...

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/StitchWeld15.jpg
I am going to try and teach my g/f how to fiberglass tonight when I start cutting into the rear bumper. My origin rear fits like poo so I need to cut both sides off and pull them in several inches.
and again, if you are going to criticize on my stitch welding...be gentle.lol. This is the first time I have ever attempted it so hopefully its up to zilvia standards and thanks for reading
racepar1
07-20-2010, 01:12 PM
On the stitch welding, you should weld little 1" long or so beads rather than spot welding. Really you just need to lay one of those little welds in between each factory weld.
bllabong89
07-20-2010, 01:32 PM
Yea, I tried to run beads like that but the metal was so thin that it would blow thru. I have a older century welder that only has wire speed and high and low mode and even with it on low, it would get to hot. Thats why I just decided to go with alot of spot welds

Awesome build so far! On the floor mount pedals: Yes, they will eliminate the booster, but be sure to properly size the master cylinders you put behind the new pedal assemblies. There are proper ways of sizing them based upon the calipers piston surface area. Unfortunately, I don't know the method.
Also, look into a Tilton/AP Racing Pedal box, it's floor mount, and also includes the throttle, brake, and clutch pedals, along with brake bias adjustment. They pop up on ebay from used race teams from time to time with master cylinders for decent prices.

cool, thanks for the heads up
I didn't get to work on my car last night. I have realized I am addicted to Crackdown 2 on the 360. I did buy the fiberglass materials tho and then today I was raped by cycle gear on stuff to do a tune up on my bike.
It was $215 for oil, oil filter, spark plugs and front brake pads. I found out I have some of the most expensive plugs for bikes at $19 a pop...thats depressing

***UPDATE***
So I have been in Mexico for the last week and couldn't get my pics to load of the last update before I left so here it is.
I decided to remove the battery tray since it will be re-located to the trunk anyways. I started by removing the a/c system components that were in my way since I will be stripping and cleaning up the engine bay anyways.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0336.jpg
I drilled out the spot welds on the top and after the a/c stuff were removed, I got to the spot welds on the bottom side.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0326.jpg
Air hammers also work well...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0327.jpg
and this is what I was left with after it was removed. I circled the spot welds on the tray to help out anyone confused on where they are hiding.

S14 Battery Tray Removal : 240sx General Discussion (http://forums.nicoclub.com/s14-battery-tray-removal-t503822.html)
and here are a couple pics of where the engine bay is at so far. I also removed a bracket on the right side but that one didn't turn out so pretty so I will leave it out...lol.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0338.jpg
the dirtyness called an "engine" in my engine bay...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/102_0337.jpg
So after I got back from Mexico, I started looking around for some goodies. I went down there with 750 in my pocket and left with 200. Bad news is that it was all inclusive.lol
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1193.jpg
but I got home and found a replica Bride Low Max for 350 bucks...before you say your retarded for spending that much money, I offered him 150 and ended up settling at 175 for a brand new seat. Don't worry, the seat will become a gaming chair for the xbox once the car is deserving of an 900 dollar seat.

either a gaming chair or a bed for nismo...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1217.jpg
I also ordered some Muteki SR48 Neo Chrome lug nuts today and am waiting for my new rear valances to come in that I bought off a guy on here.

I might buy a D2 hydro ebrake if I can find a deal too. This is what happens when you come home from vacation to a pay check.lol.
And for the update on the car...I started mocking up the rear bumper to begin my fiberglass work. It fit like shit before. Each side was atleast 6in. bowed away from the car(bad pic)...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/Bumper-Rear.jpg
So I decided to cut the sides of and fiberglass them back on so it would fit better.

Why did you buy rear spats when you have rear aero? Have you picked a color yet? good work so far.

I bought them because I figure I will inevitably mess the rear up at some point so I found a good deal and jumped on it. I would rather hang on to them if I ever do need them ya kno.
I am most likely going with a dark silver/gunmetal color with either white or black wheels. Thanks

I appreciate what you've done for this car so far man, very awesome just keep trucking and don't give up on it like some people do.
As far as engine's go, I'd say go 1J. Most purist think that's not right but they are great engine's and as mentioned turbo's are on passenger side, plus parts for them are much cheaper than RB parts. LS would be cool too but a steel block kills it to me. No matter what you decide just keep up the great work man.

***UPDATE***
So I worked on the back bumper some more. The work looked a little sketchy at first but after going over it with my grinder and a flap disk, it is coming together.
I had laid some strips of fleece that I had dunked in the resin on the top to close the gap between the bumper and the trunk. This is kind of a bad pic but I still don't have my camera so I took them with my phone and was kind of rushing. I still need to put a little more on top to level it off so remember this is just a rough draft for now.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/f10fce11.jpg
I also laid some strips on the outside of the lower parts that I cut off. I laid down one strip of fleece that went from the top of the cut to the bottom at about 3 inches wide. I also threw on about 3 or 4 squares of fleece about 3x3 on the inside to strengthen it.
After that stuff dried over a couple days, I grinded off the fleece on the outside of the bumper. The fleece is thick so even if I tried to sand it smooth, it wouldn't quite look right. I took all of it off now that the bumper was strong enough and began to lay fiberglass mat over it. It should be good enough to start sanding it down tonight or tomorrow.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/26c8f83b.jpg
You have to love sanding fiberglass.lol
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/09a3b3be.jpg
I still have a ton of work to do to get this to look right so please bare with me. I am also going to have to fix a small crack in the valances that I bought.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/c625a6a9.jpg
I also ordered some new parts. I got some lug nuts, a d2 hydro ebrake and some EVO powerslot rotors for my brembo brake upgrade. Just need the brackets for the front brakes to be complete now.

I am going to be selling my navan wing so if anyone wants it before I put it up, pm me.
I laid down some more fiberglass on the back bumper. It is turning into a pain in the ass but it will look good once its done. I dont have any pics of the work but I have some shots of the pit at drift indy in the STL over the weekend.

***UPDATE***
So since I am selling my Navan wing, I decided while I was letting some fiberglass dry that I would start to sand the drivers quarter panel and begin grinding it down to the metal by the holes for the wing to close them up. While I was doing this I noticed some bondo so I continued to get everything off so I could weld on that area.
I also began to sand down some scratches and chips on the quarter panel. While doing this, I noticed some more bondo so I threw a flapper pad on the grinder and began to take it off. This is not all of it but just to give you and idea of about how much was hiding under the paint...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1270.jpg
So that was some good news to find a shit ton of bondo. I took it all off so I could check for any rust or imperfections so I will either fix it, if I can, or put some over fenders on it.
I sanded on the top of the back bumper yesterday night and layed another layer of fleece over it to thicken the bumper so that it is even with the bottom of the tail lights. Now that it is dry, I will sand it tonight and try to smooth everything out.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/f8123ca5.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/4fc57028.jpg
I smoothed out the sides pretty well and just need to smooth out the bottom of them now. Once the bottom of the bumper is smoothed out and the top is sanded I will apply a thin layerof bondo to take out any dips and block sand it.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/15f1d768.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/03e20373.jpg
I am going to end up doing the same thing on the car. Pulling all of the dents out as much as I can and then block sanding and applying bondo(if needed). The front is pretty set but I will still repeat the block sand and bondo if necessary.
The side skirts will have to wait until I get the fenders back on so I can do my final measurements and so on...

So apparently my photobucket account's bandwit is exceeded. It should be back up by the 12th so sorry for the inconvenience.
I cleaned up the garage and organized some of my tools so I could function a little easier in my garage. After that, I began working on the back bumper some more.
I sharpied a line across the back to mark how far to sand up so I could round off the fat lip left from the fleece but not cut into the shape of the bumper. After that, I used a piece of a cardboard box to paint a line that is a little easier to see...

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/IMG_1280.jpg
I sanded that down and smoothed out the point of the fleece and the bumper. Now I just need to get the top of it level and square so the trunk can properly close with no gap.

So one thing that I don't really care for is how I have a legitimate question about something and the thread gets locked(atleast I thought it was legitimate)...I thought this was general chat.
Everytime I ask a question in the small questions thread I never get an answer so I can't see 4 questions being answered at that. My thread gets locked but there are threads like I have a turbo lying around, can I put it on my sr or my dp is busted, can it be fixed. I'm not saying those are legitimate questions but I would think my question should have the same permision to have a thread if those do...don't you?
Sorry, just a little rant but it annoys me how I can't get a question out and get atleast one answer before it gets locked...so I will ask it here. hopefully this thread doesn't get locked.lol
So I have some questions about the Dmax overfenders on the s14.
First: Does anyone have pics of them installed? I tried google and I tried here but couldn't really find any pics of them on an s14.
Second: If you have had them or have them now, how do they fit? I was thinking of going with origin but after having to do alot of work on them, am questioning if I should give them another shot.
Third: I have heard of people making overfenders wider than what thy are made. Is this just by pulling the bottom sides together to have the flex (http://zilvia.net/f/#)?
Fourth: I have an origin kit and was wondering if the bottom of the fenders will come down to the bumper and side skirts?
Please don't think that I am just making another useless thread for the hell of it, I couldn't find any info on them so just wanted to see if anyone has some input. I am going wider so this will def. help me.
Thanks
Andrew

***UPDATE***
I got some more work in on the car. I had been waiting for my lug nuts and my brake rotors from Adrenaline(local shop) for about a month and a half or so. I just got back from Pittsburgh after spendin around a week or so intsalling a conveyor system up there.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/IMG_1396.jpg
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/IMG_1400.jpg
So I threaded on my purple Muteki SR48 lug nuts and I thought these were supposed to be some decent quality pieces...I guess not. I threaded them(by hand) on to my hubs just to take a look and see how I like them. I used the socket provided to snug them up and the paint was already taken off. Just by using my hand to tighten them...That is depressing.lol
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/IMG_1402.jpg

I also borrowed a 36mm socket from a buddy to get the rear end apart. I seperated the arms from the rear spindles(if thats what its called) to get rid of the 4 lug stuff at last. I will be buying some of those roll center adjusters I think.

I there is no rust, I will begin stripping the undercoating and re-doing the under side. I will also be refreshing the bushings. Now, I am just waiting for my buddy to give me my jack back.

I shaved the holes on the quarter panel and trunk yesterday. I forgot my SD card at work tho so I don't have any pics yet. The only issue I had was the person who installed the wing did a terrible job at cutting the metal ribs on the trunk so I had to go in with the cut off wheel and do some weight reduction. Now I have a piece of metal floating around in my trunk lid http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/smilies/frown2.gif

Well, I haven't been on in a week or two. I was in Pittsburgh for a little while and then all last week I was up in Wallingford Connecticut. While I was out of town, I had a chance to take advantage of Enjuku's shipping deal so I jumped on it with every last dollar I had. I bought an AEM UEGO Wideband, Agency Power S.S. clutch line and Suspension Techniques sway bar set. When I got to work today, I found a box waiting for me that said STSuspension.
They look like pretty good quality. I will have to repaint them to match my theme but thats no big deal. They come with all of the hardware and instructions for the front and rear. The front is about 29mm and the rear is about 20.5mm.

On another note, I went to Midnight Madness before I left to Connecticut and ran my bike. I didnt have to good of times but it was the 3rd and 4th pass ever on a track for me on anything so it was fine for me. I ran an 11.5 at 121 on the first pass and 11.3 at 123 on the second pass.
I ran up against a busa on the second race and thought I was gonna get owned. Idk how but the slip said he beat me. He had a better reaction time than me but I got him in the 60ft, 1/8 mile and I crossed the line before him with a higher top speed but it said he beat me by 33/100ths of a second. http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/smilies/frown2.gif

and now the real update. Saturday was a little slow in the afternoon so I decided to pull my subframe. I did it by myself and used a motorcycle jack to aid.
In total, there are 4 large nuts for the subframe mounts, 4 medium bolts for the L-shaped bracket towards the front, the sway bar bolts, driveshaft bolts, fluid drain, vent hose, and two 10mm bolts that hold the e-brake lines I believe.
I did find the energy suspension bushings looked like they were in good condition so I think I will be keeping those and a Magnetic drain plug on the diff http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks everyone.
Here is a little bit of info on the scheme of things:
-Paint: Thinking a dark silver or gunmetal with dark purple for misc. parts and drift wheels. I think the wheels might be purple with a polished lip like some Garson wheels or some white Work XD9's.
-Engine: I want to keep cruise and A/C so I think I am going to go with a KA-T engine build. I was going to buy an sr that I had found for cheap but it had a bad cylinder. I will most likely have the KA rebuilt for a conservative 250-300 whp. I don't need anything crazy because I plan to drive this car a ton on the streets. I believe in driving what you build, not having a trailer queen.
As far as the aero, I like it. I like the Origin kits but I think mine is the least goudy out of them all. The Grill is a love hate type thing I believe. It is a JDM Kouki K's sport grill. If it doesnt go with the over all look, I will ditch it.
Anyways, I need some help...Does anyone know what this is for. It resembles a cable coming from the diff but it has no wires. When I pulled the little rubber boot and insulator off, it looked like a black w/ yellow stripe cable. Any help?

The Grill is a knock-off of a very rare Autech S14 (kouki). I have been debating on it also.
I have never seen a good picture of one installed, paint matched, and not 6" from the camera.

Ok, yea I was just wondering what it was used for because I looked at the end of the cable and there were no threads so just curious I suppose. It worked before and it will work again.lol
Well I am getting ready to order my dmax rear overfenders, tail lights and winkers so I will update later on when I get some work put in to the car. Thanks for the comments guys. Its always good to hear pos/neg comments. Thats what keeps me motivated

It is update time again and I have some good/bad news. The good news is that I pulled the gas tank, used the old gas to put a 1/4 tank in my camry.lol. The bad news is what I found after all was done and said.
So it isn't lookin good from the get go...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9565.jpg
The filler neck is done for. I also found that almost every clamp fitting on the brake lines and so on are rusted and broke...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9566.jpg
The gas line fittings are the best ones I had seen
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9568.jpg
After I removed all of the gas lines, I lowered the front half of the drive shaft and pulled the heat shield off of the tank.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9569.jpg
I don't know if I had said anything before but I accidentally hit the 4 wires going to the fuel pump with my grinder(with wire brush) while I was removing seam sealer for stitch welding. Since the wires were already a little mangeled, I decided to cut them and then I pulled the fuel pump cover off and pulled the wire thru.
Once that was done, I dropped the gas tank.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9570.jpg
From there, I hit the leads to the fuel pump with my electric impact battery and shot the fuel into a gas can to transfer it to my camry...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9572.jpg

Hey man, I know it was mentioned before but I thought I'd tell you that sensor on the front of your diff is for abs. Reason I thought I'd bring it up was because (not sure if you know already) you have a j30 diff. Doesn't really make a difference other than the gear ratio but I thought I'd mention it. You can tell because you have 5-bolt axles.

Thanks, yea I knew that it was a j30 diff. I just wasn't sure about the wire because it doesn't even look like there are any single strands of wire coming out of where it was cut. Weird but thanks anyways.
Anyways, I cleaned some stuff up a little bit. I cleaned up the filler neck cover. This is before I cleaned all of it but part of it looks like its melted. I dont know if thats from gas spilling on it or what but oh well.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9576.jpg
And then I moved to the heat shield that sits between the fuel tank and the exhaust/drive shaft. I cleaned this entire side and then flipped it over and saw how much rust was actually on it so I will probally be buying a new one...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9579.jpg
After that, I removed my old tail lights.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9580.jpg
I also removed my third brake light on the trunk and found this critter.lol I dont know how this big ass thing got in there. There isn't really any big holes...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/107_9581.jpg
I may be trying to put an L.E.D. strip in place of these^^^ bulbs to complete my tail lights. I just ordered my Dmax L.E.D. tail lights, front winkers and my over fenders.

I will try to get some better pics of them when I do a mock up on the car later on. The overfenders look pretty sturdy and better quality than the 30mm ones I had before so lets see how they look on the car. I just hope the body lines match up and everything looks like it belongs so we will see....

Ok, I threw the over fenders on to get a glimpse of the future and they look good. Good quality and excellent fitment. I can honestly say that I am very happy that I went with these over the origin. For the quality and price, they are unbeatable.
I lost my sd card so I took these with my phone. The pictures don't really do justice. You have to see these in person to realize how sick they look soooo....on with the pics

lol. Thanks everyone. Yes the car is a rust bucket and guess what...I found more. While stripping the undercoating off the front wheel wells, I found some more on the drivers side towards the firewall...more fun.
Thanks man. I think Randy, with the vert might be helping me pull the motor pretty soon here...or atleast lending me his cherry picker.
I began to strip out the front fender wells. I used my aircraft remover on the undercoating and it worked pretty well over most of it. The pics are kind of shitty but it brought it down to bare metal pretty fast and made it extremely easy to scrape off for the most part.

I picked up my tubing last night. After I got it home, I cleaned off one end and closed it up with duck tape. I then leaned the 12' tube up against my deck and filled it with water. After filling it with water, I began scooping water soaked sand into a funnel going down the tube. After it was about half way full, I started smacking it with a hammer to get the air bubbles out. I then continued to fill/smack until the sand would no longer budge. After that, I dried off the top and taped it off with ducktape.
I cleaned my garage up a bit and picked up my tools so I have a place to work on this cage. I will begin bending it tonight and then I will see how everything goes. My computer crashed so I can't upload pics right now but I will when I get a chance.

Question. Are you doing the sand in the tube to try and keep it as round as possible while bending it? Kind of a mandrel type thing.

whos doing the cage?
Whats up Conrad...I am doing the cage myself. I am trying to do almost everything myself so I can say that everything was actually done by me.
Um, if you read his posts, you would see that he is doing it himself.
Question. Are you doing the sand in the tube to try and keep it as round as possible while bending it? Kind of a mandrel type thing.
Yes, I filled the tube with water first. After that, I funneled wet sand from a bucket into the tube taking the place of the water...After that, I smacked it with a hammer to get all of the air pockets out and repeated until full. The ends were taped off with duck tape.
***UPDATE***
Well I got some work in on the main hoop last night after work. I have to say...it looks pretty good to me. No wall failure, the tube didn't flatten at all and it didn't kink. Great investment for me since I have absolutely 0000 dollars in to the cage so far. Because the tubing took so long to get here, my fabricator got it for free from the company. They just wrote it off as damaged goods and here I am with a 21ft section of 1.75"x.095". Lucky me.

Yea, not too bad for my first huh...I will be drilling some holes in the floor and slipping it in the car to see how well I actually did. After that is shoved in there, I will need to make a bracket for my seat to see what I can do about some door bars.
I am keeping my interior panels and will only have to cut the rear bottoms so far. Not sure if I will be going thru the dash yet so that will be figured out later on. I think I will be removing the rear seats and making a cover plate to clean things up a little bit.

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9744.jpg
After I had the hoop back out and emptied, I worked on cleaning up the garage a little bit and pulling some stuff off.
I got the rear brake lines off so I can get started on removing the undercoating back there and what do ya know...more rust.lol

After that stuff was removed, I moved on to getting the rest of the plastic pieces off and the weather seal stuff.

On with the update...
Alright...I will start this off by saying it was an expensive weekend...lol
I went to the Blues game Saturday which we lost again...surprising right? I spent atleast 60 bucks on beer there since they cost $9 a cup. But the big thing happened before that. I made a payment on my wheels. I found some wheels on craigslist and gave the guy half of the money and took two wheels and am going to pay the other half when I get paid. This ensures he has a buyer and I have two wheels...a front and a back.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9814.jpg
The wheels are Racing Hart CR's in special order gold. They are 19x9 +26 and 19x10 +22. The tires half some life left on them so they will look good once on the car.
Front Wheel:

And Rear:

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9811.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9813.jpg
After I got the wheels up...I decided to get some work in. I have been trying to figure out a way to use my new mirrors in a way that don't look so cheap...On the APR website, you can look at the universal Formula GT3 mirror pictures. They have them on a silvia but they don't look good to me just because they are mounted to a Carbon Fiber plate.
I know that this is because it is a track only car but I have seen others that follow the same path and I want mine to look good. It is the little things that put a car together and I am going to do the little things to my standards...
So this began:
I started with the mirror and took the threw screws out of the bottom and cut the power mirror wires to get them apart.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9782.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9783.jpg
After that, I began to disassemble the parts that I could. This included three more screws that hold the metal structure to the plastic housing.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9792.jpg
Once that was done, I took a cut-off wheel to the housing and trimmed out the area that curved outwards.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9793.jpg
After that, I made a template and cut out some sheet metal.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9795.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9796.jpg
Took this from my old work. This glue is the strongest s**t around.lol
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9798.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9799.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9800.jpg
After that, I took the metal skeleton and trimmed it down to hold the plastic housing and keep my bolt holes to bolt it to the car.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9802.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9801.jpg
And this is a rough draft of what it will look like. I still need to weld on a thicker plate of metal to hold the mirror and then fiberglass everything, sand and paint...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9803.jpg
I also received these saturday in the mail. I ordered these last thursday maybe after mailing hours so Kudos to ManoNegra on here. I believe he is the owner of Skullworks or works for them and he got these too me in a hurry. I didn't tell him I need them quick but they got here quick. They look and feel like extremely well made parts and he included the hardware with them. Two bags with four bolts each. Thanks again...

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9804.jpg
Now that I have the Brembo Conversion brackets, I can throw a front assembly together and see if the wheels clear the brakes. I held them up and they looked like they should but they may need a 5mm spacer or so at most.

And here is the front wheel mocked up to get a glimpse of what it will look like. The Brembo's will be a different color tho.

***UPDATE***
Well, I got some work done on the mirror mounts and my brake mock up...
First is the mirrors. I began on the passenger side to get both of them to the same level or close to it while I get my fiberglass materials together and choose my approach... I cut the passenger side mounting plate to a similar level as the driver side.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9827.jpg
Then, like the first one, I made a template for the sheet metal...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9828.jpg
After that, I cut some sheet metal and fitted it in there. I also took a sawzall to the metal skeleton of the mounting plate to shave the un-needed material off.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9829.jpg
I also cut out some metal from some thicker scrap I had laying around to give the mirrors a little more material to hold on to...I will also be using this scrap to make my rocker panel(should be starting that soon).
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9835.jpg
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9838.jpg
I cut out a section of the thinner metal to tack weld the thick stuff and so I will also have access to the bolts and nuts for the mirror. Here it is with the cut down metal skeleton.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9836.jpg
Now, we will move on to a little modification for the brakes. I found out that I will need some spacers to make some space in-between the wheel and the brake calipers. Most likely only like 5-10mm spacer tho...nothing crazy.
I had to cut and tap some of the shield down on the spindle to allow the bracket to sit flat. I thought this would be enough room to allow the space needed between the brakes and wheels but not quite...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9830.jpg
Side by side to give you a better idea of what I am talking about.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9831.jpg
And the clearance...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9834.jpg
I am supposed to get some time to work on the car tonight so hopefully it really works that way...lol.
On another note, I found out my ship date for basic is April 23rd so I need this done before then.lol. I am going into the Airforce and got security forces for my job(military police). Hopefully I get to go to Japan or something sometime and get some cool s***.lol

I got some more work done last night. Made a fixed seat rail for the fake bride which will allow me to get the door bars in the right spot. I ran out of wire for the welder before I could finish it tho so I will need to get some wire pretty soon here...I also got a little work done on the mirror plates. I cut out some peices of metal to make the mounting placement sit higher. Should have pics tomorrow hopefully...
bllabong89
12-24-2010, 05:50 PM
Well here are a couple pics of whats happened so far...
The fixed seat rails. Please excuse the poor welds. lol. This is what happens when your short...you have to make a custom seat rail. I could barely press the pedals all the way down with the brackets mounted on the sliders that the seat came with so I decided it would be more practical and safe this way.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9840.jpg
After that, I work on my mirrors a little more. Still need to get the materials to do the fiberglass work but here is what I am going to use to lift the mounting point off of the sheet metal...I cut some square tube in half.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9839.jpg
I still need to weld it on to the sheet metal but I dont have anymore wire yet.

Whats up Conrad...I am doing the cage myself. I am trying to do almost everything myself so I can say that everything was actually done by me.
Lucky me.

***UPDATE***
So I haven't been updating with pics in a week or so and figured I would let you guys and gals in on what I have been up to...Not much but I did get some stuff done.
It has been in the 20-30's out lately but one day it got up to high 50's so I got some work done. Gotta love Missouri weather http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/smilies/facepalm.gif
So first is what I just found yesterday and hopefully have enough money for...This will get my brake system to baller standards.

Can anyone say 05 STI rear Brembo's?? lol Not official yet but hopefully will be in the next couple days.
Next is some more work on the mirrors. I had to cut out some pieces that match the mirror mount from some flat 18 gauge steel so when I fiberglass, It has the exact shape and looks good when completed.

http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9858.jpg

I bought this for my g/f for xmas but it wasn't the right one so I need to sell the camera, case and the 2 extra batteries and charger that I bought for it. Heres a link to my ad. I payed 330 for the camera and like 60 for the other stuff but am selling it all for 330 plus shipping. We never even used it.

Alright, It's about time I get back with some updates. My computer has been down, like usual, and I have been sick for a week straight so now I have the chance to update with some progress.
Over the past week or two, I have gotten some work done. Not too crazy but some stuff got done.
First off is the mirrors. Now all I have to do is cover with fiberglass, sand and paint and they will be done. I welded on the risers that I made and then welded the final shape of the mounting plate.

I also got some work done to the car over this last weekend. I cut out the rusted spots on the chasis...excluding the front(engine needs to be pulled) and my buddy helped out by getting some sanding done. He sanded the passenger qp and door. I will get some pics soon...
On a side note...I received a present from the UPSP man today.

***UPDATE***
Alright, I told you I would get an update as soon as I could and, because I forgot my computer at work, it took a little longer than I had hoped...
I cut out the rusted areas in the trunk and the rear seat section... Now all the rust that is left is in the front fender wells(which I need to remove the engine to work on). I started by hitting all the rust areas in the trunk with a cut-off wheel to remove the cancer...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9913.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9914.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9915.jpg
Here is the area that was consumed by cancer in the rear seat section.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9917.jpg
There is some more rust in this section but I think I should be able to get to it with the grinder and knock it off.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9916.jpg
After that, I started some metal work. I had picked up part of a van panel from the body shop I used to work at so I used that as my supplies.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9918.jpg
That is how it started...well conected to a curved section and some body lines but hammers do wonders. lol. Because I was hammering away, I took this time to start on the rocker panel also(all hand made).
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9919.jpg
and the piece of art...lol
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9920.jpg
After I made that, I started to make a patch panel for the trunk cancer.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9921.jpg
And with a few cuts and bends, it became my patch...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9922.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/102_9926.jpg
I wish I had a torch to sprea the molecules of the metal to make it easier to work but I don't so it was pretty tough to work with but It got done and thats all I care about. The rocker panel is the full length of the cut out so I will need to make another little section about 4 inches wide.
Other than that, I have some pics of the rear spindles/uprights with progress.
I finally got the hubs removed. I eventually beat the bolts with a hammer. I would have thought an air hammer would work but it didn't...after a long time of trying.lol
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9923.jpg
and then I began to clean them up to get ready for paint...
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/102_9924.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/102_9925.jpg
Well thats it for now. I will hopefully get the motor pulled soon here and finish up the rust work. I leave for basic on the 12th of April for the Air Force so I need to get shit rolling...

and
S14 Subframe Bushings
http://zilvia.net/f/sale-items/364831-s14-subframe-bushings.html
Now to start the update...
I worked on the car last night and finished one of the cancer holes I cut out. Now theres just a few more to go.
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9943.jpg
http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9944.jpg
After that, I started to remove the bushings from my subframe. They came out surprisingly easy. I used torch to heat the metal hole up. Then I used a 32 mm socket and a hammer to bang the larger half of the bushing out. With 1-2 whacks, they slid right out. Now I just need to prep the subframe and paint it so I can get the rebuild on that thing goin...

http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9951.jpg
After that, I used that torch to try and remove some of the undercoating on the driverside wheel well...
That made life much easier and I wish I would have used it to start with.

Thanks.
Fun it is but its more like an adventure since I have never done anything this in-depth before.
Well, no work on the car but I thought I would let you know...
First, I sold the bushings...
And second, I got these bad boys in...
DIF Subframe Bushings and Differential Bushings.

I will hopefully get the subframe cleaned, prepped and painted this weekend and then equip it with its new bushings. I have been trying to think of a way to reduce the noise from the rear end.
Do you think if I used some silicone such as some Flexane 94...used here How to make your own motor mounts (http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=215490)... I could put a 1/4" sliver in between the body and the bushings sandwiched in there to reduce noise? Any help would be appreciated.

So, I cleaned up some parts to get them ready for paint. I started to clean the subframe(I think I may need to sand blast it), cleaned the front spindles up, the rear uprights and some other little things. Don't have any pics of the subframe but heres the front spindles. Still look dirty but thats as good as I could get them without sand blasting.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae319/ahill-miconcepts/100_9963.jpg
After that, I finished welding up the holes I cut out in the trunk. Not the best welding but it will do.

And here is the rocker panel. I still need to finish up the side towards the front and then make an extension for the rear end but got the majority of it in.

Thanks, it is going pretty well but its just hard finding time to get in the garage.
I am stilllllllllll waiting on my baller bolts stuff to get here. Placed the order on the 19th. I emailed them once and they said they would ship out the following friday because they were waiting for washers. That was 2 weeks ago. Emailed them again last week and no response. Well...I finally got confirmation from Baller Bolts that my stuff has shipped out this morning. That is good news because I can start to assemble the subframe.
Last night, I started to sand/scuff the trunk. I then used some self etching primer from SEM to seal up the areas that I patch welded and stitch welded. I didn't have my SD Card so no pictures yet but I will make sure to get some tonight.
Oh, I also sold the SR Head so let me know if anyone is interested in anything else...

Well it has been a while since I last posted up but i have a bit of an update now. I have been getting ready to leave for basic and hangin with the family so havent dedicated much time to the car but I did do some things.
I will try to get some pics up since I just picked up another sd card(keep losing them). I dont have pics of some of the stuff that has been done like spraying the new underbody and applying the new sound deadening material to the cab... I still need to put the sound deadening material in the trunk tho.
I did manage to get my bolts from ballerbolts.com and started work on my subframe. I painted all of my factory suspension stuff with my POR-15 to start...

After the paint was dried, I began to equip my Yamato garage parts...

http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/100_9979.jpg
I am also fitting my DIF Subframe bushings in there as soon as I can get that inner ring s*** out...
After that, I began some body work. I picked up some darker Metalic silver paint to spray on there. I also spoke with the painter at the body shop I used to work at and he told me he would spray it for me if I give him a 30 pack.lol...deal. So I sprayed the underside of my over fenders with undercoating to strengthen them a bit.
I also began filling some dents and so on with bondo. I filled and smoothed out the hack job that was done previously on the drivers quarter panel. I also filled some little dings on the drivers door. Luckily the passenger side isn't nearly as bad.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1766.jpg
Then I moved to the trunk and top of the quarter panels to fill the holes from the wing and antenna.

Well, I got some work done on the subframe yesterday...after driving around for a few hours looking for bolts.
I began with bolting the rear hubs up but I will start with the bushings first. I finally got the cups removed from the subframe and I will explain with pictures...
I made two cuts into the cups but couldn't make it all the way thru the entire inner cup. The bushing mounts have a cup that sits inside of the ring where you fit your bushings and you must remove these for solid bushings. I am using DIF Bushings on my subframe and my diff.
As you can see in this picture, the line where the cup meets the ring is labeled with the red arrow. One side of the cup is folded inside the ring...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/bushinginstall2.jpg
And the other side is folded outwards as a stopping point for the cup to be pushed in. You can see the lip in this picture.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/bushinginstall.jpg
As you can see in the pictures above, they have already been cut to releave some pressure. I am not sure if this is needed but I did it and it seemed to work alright. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CUT THRU BOTH RINGS if you do this. I then used an air hammer to bang the s*** out of the inner ring.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/100_9985.jpg
And here are a couple rings and one that shows the lower lip...
http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/100_9984.jpg
I then began with my new bushings. I have had them in the freezer for about 2-3 weeks so I'm pretty sure that helped. Freezing things, such as metal in our case, usually shrinks things. The bushings probally had shrunk enough to make them go in easier for the cost of nothing.
Once I got the bushings ready to go in(2 pieces per bushing), I layed the bushing into the hole and then whacked the s*** out of it with a mallet. They slid in pretty easily and I didn't have to do the bolt and nut routine to suck them in to eachother. Just repeat this step 7 more times and they are in.

http://forums.nicoclub.com/images/spacer.gifhttp://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/100_9986.jpg
I have also bolted up my rear brake set-up and my wheels.
My brakes are STI rear calipers on top of EBC Braking EVO Rotors. My wheels are 19x10 Racing Harts CR's with Purple Muteki sr48 lug nuts.

Alright, Thanks. I thought that was it but wanted to make sure. I need to replace mine because my fuel gauge doesn't read correctly but I'm running out of time so I guess that will have to wait until next time...
Amazing build, I just went through the entire thing. Great attention to detail! Do you have any more pics of your seat mounts? I'm curious as to whether it sits lower than it would with proper bride rails.

Thanks. I will try to get some tonight. I still need to paint them. I do not believe they will sit lower than the legit bride/buddy club rails. I just made these so I don't have to worry about adjusting my seat ever and/or let other people drive my car.lol

Alright guys...this may be my last post for quite some time. I leave for basic in exactly a week and have a lot to do so here is an update.
Here are some pics of where the car was at yesterday morning...

From the time those pictures were taken, I put the front fenders, bumper support and hood on. I also put the rear tire back on and adjusted the spacers on the rear brakes. Last of all, I began to run the wires back thru the car.
Here are some misc. shots of the fancy stuff.lol.

I am going to try to get some more work done today before I head out to the lake for a couple days retreat.
My original plan was dropping the car off at a local shop(Nocturnal Motorsports/JDM Hook Up) and have them install an rb25 while I was at basic and tech but I don't think I have enough of the money to start it while I am away. Anywho...I will be trying to get it back up and put together enough to be a solid roller and then when I am back I will possibly drop it off for a new engine.
I just want to say thanks for everyones feedback and help on the problems I encountered. If I am not back on here before I leave, I will see ya on the flip side.

So I finished up Basic and now I am in tech school. I have been looking around for new cars and what not but have decided to use the money I got from basic and selling my bike and atv. Well, I didnt have time to get these pics up before I left but here are a few of how the car is sitting at the moment...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1791.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1792.jpg

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1794.jpg
So that is how its sitting now. I have been thinking of going with an rb25 but because I have expensive taste and like to do things right the first time, I think I will be putting a red top in it so I can spend a bit on parts to make it a stout daily/track car that is reliable. Your car is only as good as it is reliable in my eyes and I don't want to worry about it breaking down all the time and having trouble finding parts so that is it for now. I will update with the parts I will be buying since I can't exactly work on it at the moment.
stay tuned...
bllabong89
08-17-2011, 08:23 AM
So I haven't been able to give adequate updates while I have been in Tech School. I am almost done here. I left April 12th for basic and then stayed at Lackland AFB for my Security Forces Tech School. It has been long and interesting you can say. I haven't ordered anything for my car yet but I do have an update.
Since I have been here, I have saved money and been looking at stuff quite often. I have to come to find a car for sale in my hometown that I could not pass up. Luckily the seller is a great person and completely hooked me up with a killer price so I just can't wait to get home to my new car.
I had been talking of swapping an rb or ls into my car. After numerous quotes and pricing sheets, I found this would be more reasonable and achievable by purchasing this car. My boy is picking it up tomorrow for me so I will jump into it.
It is a 1996 s14. Same color and same model as mine(se). The car has an rb25 swapped into it already with a few basic upgrades done to it. Thankful it runs good and has no cancer(rust).
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/new9.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/new8.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/new1.jpg
The new plan now is to use the parts I have scrounged up over the last 2 years or so and create a monster. I most likely won't do too much to the engine besides some little things here and there for a while to keep the drive-ability but I think it should be enough for a little while anyways...
I have alot of good parts, like my subframe that I just assembled and my other suspension components, my brake set up, exhaust and wheels and most likely the front end, that will most likely find their way on to this car.
Again, sorry for the long pause but I graduate in a month or so and will begin some of the transformation. Stay tuned!

*UPDATE*
So I haven't been on in quite some time... This is due to joining the Air Force, going thru my tech school and then getting stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas. I did manage to make some progress since I have been off though.
I ended up buying another s14. I was going to put an rb25 in my old car and after everything was priced up, I was looking at around 7k+. I found my new s14 with an rb25 already swapped in and some little mods done. Since I have been on break, I took both cars and merged them together. I am now the new owner of an rb25 powered s14. Currently, I am waiting on getting the car painted so it isn't with me now but here is some info on the things that have been done.
The previous owner cut a few corners but nothing a little bit of tlc couldn't fix. The fan for example, was rigged up pretty well.
I'm not sure what was the reasoning for the wiring but I had to fix it to say the least. It had twin altima fans on it if I am not mistaken. The fans were wired to a toggle switch that was mounted behind the driver side headlight. I'm not sure why but I fixed it.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_2086.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_2084.jpg
I replaced the fans with an Isis dual fan/shroud assembly. I would have to say the product fitment and performance has been terrific. I would definitely recommend this product.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1972.jpg
I also got rid of the toggle switch with this dual fan controller kit. This was extremely easy to install. You wire up the constant power, ignition and ground wires. Also, to read the temperatures, I took the sensor probe and just pushed it thru the radiator fins and it was done.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1975.jpg
I also took my complete suspension off of the old car and replaced the stock worn out crap on the new car. My subframe with my Yamato Garage components, my sway bars, custom made power bar and my Tien coilovers. After that was all done, I replaced the stock wheels that were on the car with my Racing Hart CR 19x9/10's. After that was all done, the car looked like this...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_2090.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_2092.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_2091.jpg
With some help from a buddy, I cleaned up the wiring, installed a new tps, put in my bucket seat and did a once over on the car.
The car has nice power and runs pretty strong. The suspension is responsive and rides nice. I still have things to go over. The wiring has been a bit of a mess so I think that I may replace it with a WS pre-made harness. I also need to upgrade the MAF to a Z32 MAF and get a good tune. The BOV needs to be replaced with my Greddy Type S because it is not working properly and the mounts need to be replaced because they look horrendous. The power steering also needs to be addressed because instead of doing what was needed to make it work or remove it completely, the lines were just chopped and the visible parts were removed. This has made it extremely difficult to turn which is not ok for me. It is hard to turn even when driving.
I also have numerous parts that I have gathered for the car. I need to put on my APEXi turbo timer. I bought this harness and it is a very easy plug and play assembly(already tested it out).
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1978.jpg
Now that I have my AEM Tru Boost Controller and UEGO wideband, I need to install them. To mount them, I bought this ATI Ez Pod that mounts right on top of my steering column.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1973.jpg
For the engine, I bought an Isis short throw shifter, an Isis Oil Catch can and an OEM shifter bushing to take some slop out(bought before shifter so it will most likely be used later on).
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1976.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1974.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1979.jpg
I also have Tien inner tie rods and need to get some tie rod ends to complete the steering.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/IMG_1977.jpg
Well, thats about it for now. Here are some pics of the engine bay from how it started to being cleaned up a little bit.

For real man? I was 324th. My mti was SSgt Romero. It wasn't really bad. I'm 23 so I was one of the older guys goin thru but it wasn't bad...just hot. I'm secfo so my tech school was at lackland too
Yeah lol 324 knights, wasnt too hot for us, it was actually windy and cool for our parade. I never saw SSgt Romero but I had SSgt Garcia (i think he got his blue rope) and TSgt Estrada. They were awesome and we got warrior flight haha. Im glad I didnt have tech school at lackand with MTIs everywhere lol, Im Ammo and mine was at sheppard which sucks just as bad and everyone says lol. You get to your first base yet?

Yea, it was flooded but I don't know how much of that went down. I've got a few buddies from tech school go up there. One oft friends said he loves it but he was also raised in Alaska. Lol

So I need some insight. If you could help, that would be great. I'm looking to get about 300-325hp at the wheel. I want to keep the engine internals stock for the moment and just get the car to have good reliable power.
What options would you recommend?

Top mount exhaust manifold with a bigger turbo. Bigger injectors and a new fuel rail. After that a tune would get you quite a bit more power.

Love the build! Incredible attention to detail on the whole thing... I Just picked up a '91 S13 to rebuild so this is definitely motivation!

Thanks, it's all a learning process. This is my first in depth build so I prefer to do things myself and learn by trial and error. Labor is free when your doing it and it's usually not to bad when you can find help from people everywhere.
I just ordered some new parts. I've got new p/s lines to fix the issue of them being cut when I got the car. I also ordered some tein inners with ends and then a oil drain solution for the head at high rpm. Also got a crank collar ordered from a very helpful person. I will get pics up when I can physically touch this stuff.

Well I just got the hook up from Grip Royal. I will give a full review of their product soon but so far they have been nothing less than outstanding.
If you aren't aware, I enlisted in the Air Force over the last 8-9 months. I found out the hard way that money is not good in this career field when you have no rank.
Grip Royal, unlike some large companies I have dealt with in the past, they completely helped me out with my situation and gave me an unbeatable price. I have heard nothing but good things about their steering wheels and now I will have my hands on one in the near future.
I will give an update with some pics soon on the items I have coming to me.
I am also looking for a mount kit for the rb25 into my s14 so if anyone's sellin one, send me a pm with a price and we will see if we can work something out.

Well, where do I begin??? lol.
I've been gone for quite some time. pop in here and there but haven't updated this in a good amount of time. lol.
I joined the Air Force, Left for basic last April and went to tech school in san antonio as well. Now I am stationed at Little Rock, AFB. I swing into town here and there to visit and what not and was getting a lot of time in on my old car to new car.
I bought a members rb25 s14 and entered the realm of swapping parts over from one chasis to another. I put in a lot of labor on my car and that kind of bit me in the ass. It took longer than it should have but it taught me more than I could have any other way.
When I left for basic, the car was a rolling chasis. It still had the engine in it but all lines and wiring taken off because I wasn't done. I did a lot of body work, rust repair, stitch welding, scraping of under body and re-spraying, suspension overhaul, parts gathering and other things I can't think of off the top of my head.

When I got into tech school, I found the s14 on here that BlackDC5 had for sale. I had money saved up and was going to do the rb25 swap in my old chasis but found this route to be cheaper so I swooped it up...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/new9.jpg
My buddy decided to start his shop up, Rush Garage, with his friend and was looking for a shop car or something to swap and bought an sr so he needed a chasis. I needed a paint job so I made a deal with him. I got to keep all of my aftermarket parts and he got the oem stuff off the rb s14. I did all of the work of switching it from car to car and all I needed was a paint job in return. He got my old car, full interior, ka engine/trans, wiring and a few aftermarket parts like steering wheel w/ qr, brand new walbro installed along with some eibach/kyb spring/strut combo and a clear title once my car was finished.

Now the big part of the deal was done. All I was waiting on was my car to get painted and after around 3 months of nagging, being told different things week to week, and coming into town(5 1/2 hr drive each way) every other weekend, I was told he couldn't get it done in the final month dead line I was given. By this time, my old car was already scrapped for metal and parts probably sold off. I was then given $500 for the car. I'm pretty sure I could have parted it out for more than that if I was given the heads up sooner but that was no longer possible.
I took my car, my $500 and ran. I then found someone who could actually get the job done and got my car painted. Kevin Baker from Baker's Auto Body did the car and did a pretty good job. Full color change including jams(besides engine bay) for pretty cheap. Also fixed a number of dings and cut out the rear quarters for my DMax overs.
Went from this...

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab210/anhill88/101_0090.jpg
Needless to say...I'm very happy with the 240 but I still have a number of parts and what not that need to go on.

I am in the process of installing my new Wiring Specialties harness, I have some Top Hat mounts to go on, need to get my brembos painted and installed, throw on my boost controller and wide-band and a pile of other parts I have accumulated over the past 8 months. I will be updating this now that I have the time and opportunity to get things done.
Now we see where I can take this thing...
