Well my 92 coupe is dead.
A lady in a full size conversion van pulled right out in front of me.

Here's how it went down.
I'm heading home after a miserable day at work.
I'm cruising(at the speed limit,45mph)in the right hand lane.
As I near an intersection I see that I have a green and I continue through.

Now here's where it get's interesting.
The van was sitting at the light(a red light)in the "straight only"
lane. The "right turn" lane is an "on ramp" that feeds into the road that I was headed down. When I was about a cars length away from her she starts to turn right, right into my lane. I lock up and hit her. There was nothing I could do about it. Needless to say my front end is destroyed, my plans for the car are [email protected]#ked, and I need to find another coupe.
That's going to be fun.

I guess the lady's head hit her drivers side window when I hit her. I hope it hurt.
I don't get how someone that stupid was allowed to get a driver's licence in the first place.

I haven't been able to talk to my insurance company yet, so I have no idea how this is going to play out. But, I must say, the little 240 held up pretty well considering how big the other vehicle was. I was expecting more damage.

I am unharmed.

Great you are unharmed, bad that the other driver was a dummy, and great you got other plans..

Here is what I do...regardless of of traffic behind me, at unsure intersections, I watch all cars front tires and see for a roll with my hand on the horn...this is South Florida, lot of 85 year old drivers in boats with no clue..I slow down entering any intersection, I make a way out if I can.

Thias one was too fast for a reaction for you...but had you acted like you were going to slow to turn and got down to say 30 (like I do at all of them and fuc the folks behind me...you may have caught a read on her.

Driving is a vibe. You must expect everyone to do something stupid at any time. When I am on the interstate and a truck is doing 65...and I want by, I make sure he sees me by looking in his mirror and flashing my high beams..as soon as I know he sees me and he is not gaining on anyone, I go to close to 85 really quick and get around his butt.

I once got pulled over for going 87 during this and the cop was...you were hauling a s s ..I said, I pass trucks with authority, and slow at intersections..I dont trust them..he let me go..and we had a conversation about battle tactics.

It happened between 1030 and 130 right??? Or was it the morning or evening rush?

I certainly wish you well and under the situalation, you did the best you could..thank God no one was killed..because a 25MPH accendent can be lethal actually.

Thanks for all the kind words.
I've found several coupes already, but they have all been automatics.
I guess if I buy my old car(5spd) back for cheap, I could just do a auto to manual swap.

As I mentioned in my previous post, this was not something I could have avoided, or planned for. The van was totally stopped at the intersection, and gave absolutely no indication that it was going to pull out directly in front of me. I have been driving for nearly ten years, I'm always well aware of my surroundings as a drive. This is my first major accident.

What was strange about this, is that there was no one ahead of me or behind me on the road and it happened at about 6:30 at night(plenty of sun). I had the obvious right of way, and was driving "by the book". The woman must have thought she had a clear lane to turn right and totally gunned it out in front of me, which was completely illegal because she was in a lane that was supposed to go straight.

NiteKids is the master of one-liners on this board.
And those big stupid vans are called conversion vans here in the midwest. Indiana:down:
