s14 ka24de engine wont rev past 5500rpm

hi im new to this forum my friend told me to check it out to see if any of u guys can help me out...well my problem is that when i drive my engine wont rev past 5500 rpm when its in nuetral i can easily take it past that all the way to the rev limiter... i tried changing the maf, spark plugs, and distributor and i still have the same problem... i dont know what else to do from here... can any1 help me out please

i have a turbo kit that im waiting to put on but i need put some more miles in my rebuilt motor its all ready to go for turbo.... i was thinking it might be the ecu too, but i have anotehr ecu i tried b4 this one and my rpm guage doesnt work at all so i dont know if it passes 5500 rpm or not i need to try another ecu one more time thanks for the help

Try unplugging the 5th gear switch, see if it will "rev out".

The 5th Position Switch Is The Middle Switch On The Side Of The M/T In Front Of The M/T Cross Member

The backup speed limiter is ~5000rpm in 5th gear...so if the ECU thinks the car is in 5th all the time, it will limit revs to around 5000 (and our tachometers are notoriously inaccurate, so you might be seeing ~5500, when it's actually ~5000rpm).

I was recently having the same probs, just came across this post. I unplugged the OD switch on the tranny and i got my upper RPM band back. Thank you!!! :squintd:
