Alright so I am about to put my old maxima wheels up for sale so i decided to clean them. After cleaning them i noticed some very difficult dirt/ brake dust. that wouldn't come off. I tried a sponge, finger and brush, nothing. So now getting frustrated i called my dad, and he was even stumped at first. But we found some magic in our garage that worked. So here it is:
Here is the crap I am trying to get off

Here is our magic cleaner, who would have thought:

Alright next step just put a drop of it on your finger:

That's really cool. You ought to contribute this to that one thread where people share different tips & tricks they use for car-related work.

Yeah there a definite difficult spots on wheels to clean..for me its around the valve stems. In using the cleaner i wonder what does the work, the cleaner or the gritty pumice in it? Good idea either way

i'd just worry about the pumice scratching the finish. are there any issues with this?

There is non pumice fast orange (which kinda sucks for cleaning your hands).

you can also use #000 steel wool to get in the nooks and crannies. dosent scratch the rim either.

glad you guys liked the idea. The actual thing that is getting rid of the crap is the grit because before i did it i used a wheel cleaner on it and it wouldn't come off, so i'm pretty sure it's the grittyness of the fast orange. I am almost positive it will not scratch the surface.

what works even better is a purple spray bottle at any convinience store, i forget the name, its lemon based and cleaned off the caked brake dust off my rims, use a tooth brush for around the valve stem. good shiet

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works just as well. If its a painted wheel you can use Easy Off Oven Cleaner as well. Don't leave it on long or it may remove the paint depending on how the wheel is finished.

I hope you were kidding about the oven cleaner...
True Story...
I was about 11-12 years old and moms asked me to wash her car.
The car got dish soap......and the rims got oven cleaner and the end result was the clear coat on the rims shrivled and days later it was all rusted to crap.lmao those were the days.

I'm actually not. It works well on OEM painted wheels. Spray on, wipe off. It would be my last choice but it works if nothing else, including something like Meguiars wheel brightener, doesnt work.

Oven cleaner is HIGHLY corrosive. It WILL haze polished aluminum bad and it will eat the anodizing and finish off just about anything.
I use the crap to strip of annodizing on stuff.... It's VERY nasty.
I wouldn't use it on any part of my car to "clean" it, ever.
Glad I had my wheels powder coated black. Good info though if ever get a different set :D

Zepalume acid delluted with 75 percent water. Spray it on, let it sit for 30 seconds, pressure wash it off.
We do this to every car at the detail shop I work at. Its the quickest easiest way to return wheels to brand new.

If that's the same wonderful red stuff that I used to use when I worked for Toyota, then yes, it is amazing shit. BUT, over time, it will eat away at the clear coat.
