Hello,
I just got a 84 300zx turbo for 700.00 and I want to gut it out (engine, tranny, suspen., disc brakes and differential)and put the guts in my 72 240z.
Does any one know what kind of differential the 300zx comes with and will I have any problem with this plan.
Thanks

My friend with an '85 turbo has an open diff. I'm not sure if a VLSD was available for those cars, but it may have been an option. Quickest way to tell? Put the car in gear, jack up the back end via the diff and spin one of the wheels. If they both spin the same direction, you have LSD, if not, it's the Uh-Oh open diffy.

z31 turbos had a weak clutch type LSD. Supposedly it's of the R200 variety.

Your car does not have a Limited Slip diff, as those were only available on Turbo models from 87 and up, there was a change in the middle of 87 from viscous LSD to a clutch based LSD, see http://z31.com/differential.shtml for more details.
