View Full Version : sr20det idle
Hey guys. i just installed hks 256 cams in my car. The idled is kinda rough. The car idles at about 850 rpms. I was just wondering if the idle is to low? if it is to low what should it atleast be at? please help.

It's not "too low", but whenever you go to bigger cams, it automatically makes the idle lopier, jumpier, rougher, etc....because the cams probably have significantly more overlap the OEM cams....so the cams are designed to increase flow at higher RPM, thus leaving your idle sub-perfect.
You could try opening up the throttle plate (via the tiny screw) or the IACV a little bit to raise the idle to the 950-1000 RPM range....the idle should seem moe stable at a slightly higher RPM....

Agreed with what jspaeth said, just try to raise your idle a little. My friends got 272's in his SR and its good luck making that thing idle nicely lol. His idle is set to 1k rpms so his exhaust isnt smacking his bumper lol.

same here
cams = no good idle.
let the car warm up, and make sure the thermostat opens.
use tiny set screw on throttle body plate to adjust very minor idle
use iacv screw(grey one) and turn it OUT to make idle go UP.
Thanks guys for the help. This really hepls me alot. I will adjust my idle a little then.
oh and one more thing. Do i need to unplug my tps sensor to adjust the iacv?
