I'm having some issues with my front tires pushing, so I want to get some advise from people who know what they're doing. I've been running 215/40 yokohama's on 17x8 rims at about 33 psi. First question, should I be running less tire pressure up front? Now I'm putting a 17x9 up front and was planning to run a 235/40 tire. What's a good, but relatively inexpensive tire to run up front? I was thinking about potenza RE050's because thats what I have on my daily driver and they handle really well, but they don't last very long and aren't all that cheap. Any input would be helpful.

i ran some RT615's up front for awhile and loved them. only problem is that they are like $180 a piece in that size. if you switch up to a 225/45 they are a little bit cheaper since it is a more of a common size

Yeah I agree falken 615, dunlop z1 star specs, or dunlop dz101 even would be good up front.

I liked the dunlop d1 star specs.
Falken rt615's were nice. I could only imagine that the rt615k's are even better.

I still want to try some AD08's though.

Federal 595RS-R. Been running those for a couple years now and never had a problem with pushing the front. And they cost around $110 per tire.

Questions for you!

1) What are your rebound settings front/rear?
2) What wheel/tire sizes are you running front rear?
3) What tires are you using in the rear?

Rebound isn't an absolute. That is driver preference, along with all coilovers act differently.

1.I'm not sure what you mean by rebound?
2. I'm running fn's. Was using 17x8 +25 with 215/40/17 front and 17x9 +35 with 235/45/17 rear, but I'm switching to 17x9 +15 front and 17x10 + 12 rear. Going to run 235/40/17 up front and 245 or 255 40 17 rear.
3. Rear tires I've been using whatever used tires I can get, but I think I'm just gonna start buying new nexen n3000's.

Are you trying to drift or are you trying to go faster grip/lap times/etcc..?

If you are trying to go faster/lower lap times then first of all run lower cold tire temperatures... as when you put heat into the tires the hot pressure will be more than 33psi...

Second of all what were you thinking running a 215/40/17 that's for like a honda civic or something... plus stretched? Of course your car will push! You need front grip! With a 17x9 at least run a 245/40/17 and that's still shorter than a stock 25" tire height on a 240. It would be much more ideal.

Thirdly run a better compound tire, maybe some NT05s? Or if you track regularly some NT01s (won't be dissapointed trust me, I am never going back to street tires).

If you're trying to drift then I can't help you because that's not my thing... but running stretched wheels + crappy small tires (width and height), high tire pressures will be a nightmare for performance/handling/grip/etc...

It's a drift car and I don't drive it on the street. I found a good deal on a pair of bridgestone re050's. I've never used the rt615's or ad07's, would they be better than the potenza's?

I only ran those front wheels and tires cause I got them cheap, but I've quickly realized I need a better setup which is why I'm asking all the questions.

RE050s are okay tires but they are not the stickiest tires that Bridgestone have. Go run some Bridgestone RE-11s, Yokohma AD07/08, or Dunlop Star Specs. These are what I'd run for daily drivers up front.

For cheaper options, you got Nitto NT-05s, Falken Azenis RT-615s, and Federal RS-Rs. All 3 tires are roughly in teh same price range but the best out of the 3 are Nitto NT-05s. Only gripe I got about it is that the thread depth sucks. They are cheaper but I dont see them lasting that long for a daily driver. RT-615s are good but they turn gooey when they get too hot. Those tires are whats on my list for fronts.

Nitto NT-01s are race tires (R-compounds), sticky as hell and cheap but not a great idea to daily drive on, specially when its wet. I'd drive very very carefully with these if you suddenly get caught in a storm on your way to the track.

I don't daily drive the car so that's not an issue for me. What do you think about toyo r888's? Found a guy selling those used pretty cheap. I read some reviews and they seem really nice for grip racing, but I didn't find anyone using them on a drift car.

Do not use RE050's.

Z1 Star Specs, AD07/08, RE01R (if you can find them), RS-R's. I prefer either one of the first 3 tires I listed. I have heard that Goodyear RS's (I think that's what they are) are decent. Also, IMO, 33psi is too high for front tire pressure...I run 1.8-2.0bar for fronts. They heat up A LOT too, so don't forget that! Also, I would consider a tread pattern that can be flipped from one side to another so that you can get the maximum life out of your tires.

They are good tires too but the problem with getting something used is that the older the tires are, the harder the rubber gets. When tires get hard, they dont stick as good.

Just bought some new rt-615's. I'll try those out at the end of the month with my new alignment. Thanks for all the input and suggestions!

i had azenis before... didnt like them... but i have heavy spring rates that basically require slicks lol so azenis dont provide enough grip as is.. that being said... they were extremly greasy after some hot laps.... which sucked. Imagine doing a 40minute lap session going hardcore... not gona happen.. they start getting worse and worse progressively. The compound is more suited for autox and street cars period. I dunno about drifting.

for drifting:

rt615's front (careful of rain)
nexan rear

is what I like.

also lower tire pressure lowers grip or increases slip angle, so in the front would cause understeer I am almost certain. I think running a bit more psi gives you more grip.

lower tire pressure will been more contact surface of the tire and road, which will result in more grip. More tire pressure will result in a smaller contact patch and result in less grip. Think of drifting a low power car...you have to add loads of tire pressure in the rear to get it to do what you want to, but you have to lower that tire pressure to drift a higher horsepower car.

I have heard of people running ss 595's on the front, any reviews from that?
