Car would die on startup unless you gas'd it for about a minute.
Replaced the coolant temp sensor, ran better for a day or so.
But now the same problems back.
Initial startup and idle she wants to die, but after 2 minutes of driving it'll idle by itself.
But on restart it wants to die again, only way it'll hold idle after driving is if i unplug the coolant temp sensor?! :squint:
ideas?

Fuel filter?
Nope.
Heres a list of everything Ive checked out.
TPS - Tested good
Rotor - New
Fuel Filter - New
Injector Seals - Tested good
Distributor Cap - New
Spark Plug Wires - Good
Coolant Temp Sensor - New
Fuel Pressure Regulator - Tested good
Spark Plugs Properly Gapped - Yes
Blocked PCV - Nope
Vacuum Leak - Nope, no hoses are brittle or have holes
Leaking EGR Valve - Nope
When you first start up, the car wants to die but when i unplug the CTS it will idle on its on.
Meaning maybe it isnt getting enough fuel on initial startup?
B/c I know when you unplug the CTS it causes the car to run rich.
So if my car starts with it unplugged and idles maybe its too lean initially?
Its only initially too because if i replug the CTS after i started it disconnected, she runs perfect.
But with the CTS unplugged it will drive and sputter and backfire like an 88 volvo

check the voltage on the fuel pump. Does it run fine while getting on it? Have you checked your timing?

yeah it runs fine 'getting on it'. ka sohc so not really much to get on
but it runs smooth WOT, no havent checked timing. cant be that though or else it would run shitty all over...
and yeah the fuel pump voltage came back perfect..

Did you reset the ecu after replacing the cts?

no...i unplugged the battery for a minute but didnt make a difference, is there another way to reset it manually? maybe via the screw??

Unplug the battery for a minute- then when you restart it, you have to start it and let it idle. Touching the gas at all will make it revert back to previous settings. Let it idle for at least 10 mins without touching the throttle at all.
You may have to do this on a warm engine though, since it wont idle when its cold.

could be your IACV, It controls the amount of air and engine idles and when is fails it usually stalls the engine, just a suggestion I didnt see on the list

oh okay, just take it off and clean it?

Yes, use some carb cleaner and now would be a good time to go get a paper gasket to use for a seal between your IACV (autozone or whatever sells big sheets/rolls). I also noticed you didnt say anything about your MAF, check that out as well.

i checked the MAF, while idling if you unplug it the car should cut off right?
i also saw an article disassembling the iacv to clean it, is that necessary or is there a certain part of it that just needs to be cleaned..

when cleaning mine, i took it off, sprayed carb cleaner in all of said holes, and did this for a good 10 mins. SO much shit up in it, it was nuts. You will most likely be amazed at the amount of gunk in it if it has never been cleaned before.

Another thing is it let it sit in a cup of petrolium based cleaner then spary it out after it has soaked for a while. IACV's can be expensive if your go to buying a new one, but it all depends on where you find your deal ;).

Cleaned the IACV, no avail.
Adjusted the IACV and that fixed the low idle.
But initially on startup she still wants to die without gas applied. Then about 1-3 revs later it'll idle on its on.

If it were the fuel pump screen, id assume it would happen all the time, no? Not just upon initial startup?
Does the car act this way even when its warm? If you shut it off and restart it, it always wants to die?

How and when did this issue happen, lack of that detail could be pointing you the wrong way. Check your fms for rich start up senarios.

yup unless i tap the gas a few times. see i was thinking if its fuel related it would be continually thruout the power band. but ive ran the car in mode 5 and it says its running fine, not lean nor rich.
just intial startup it doesnt wanna idle on its on :\
