I just got back from dana point this weekened and the waves were strong. The waves were NOT OF MY TASTING. Thinking about hiting up malibu this coming weekend, anyword on how things are there?

How was it like breaking through the white water? Noobish question coming from a noob :p I could care less for all the spiffy cars, see those all the time at work, I am more concerned about seeing a clean s-chasis parked up by the beach front under the ocean sunset: that my friend is exotic.

heavenboundkevin
06-29-2010, 10:44 PM
yeah, i dont care about those cars either. they are just kinda nice to see once in a while.

if you start paddling a little to the right of the pier youre not going to get smashed. even still its not that bad. the waves break kinda far out but will take you all the way to the beach, but by that time it doesnt have much power. paddling out at malibu is not going to be a problem dont worry about that.

wow not much surf love from zilvia huh? oh well surfing sucks, dont try it.

holy crap thats freaking ghey! i didnt even know that could happen.

when im surfing i usually dont even think about anything other than "wheres the waves" and "oh shit gotta get under this one" it would suck to worry about getting a ticket while surfing.

haha well at our local break there are no signs stating the law, which it's a surfing only beach so you'd think there would be a sign or something. I guess since yesterday was decently sized for the east coast, 3-4ft and clean, the life guards called the beach patrol and were calling people out of the water and writing them tickets. I happened to be leaving since it was around 7pm and i'd been in the water for about 3 hours as they were making their way down the beach towards where i was. The officer saw me get out of the water and stopped me on my way to the showers. I plan on taking pictures of the entrances showing that there are no signs. My court date is on Sept 12th. What gets me is the fact that i understand why you would need one at the strip where all of the hotels are and where all of the tourists are swimming, but 3 miles up the beach in a secluded surfing only beach just makes no sense to me.

Bro that sucks, the fact we deal with shit like that with our cars, and all sudden it comes after you even when your out in the ocean is kinda.....lame and pointless. sorry to hear that, I say fight it to the bone.

At the hospital. Just got first surfing injury. It was super low tide but still good sized clean waves and I went over the falls landed on my ankle and now it's swollen to about the size of a tangerine. Freaking sucks. Won't be able to surf or run or bike for probably 7-10 days. WEAK!

But I would love to know when the next swell is coming or the forecast in detail, Im no meteorologist and sometimes a good swell will surprise me.

you can try using magicseaweed or my favorite swellinfo.com. Both give 5 day forecasts, but I tend to like the latter better. I try to keep track of the tides and also the weather forecast to see if the winds and pressure system give any clue as to what the surf may be like on any given time.

Well, I can find a million places to do curb endos while wearing a messenger bag but I couldn't find a wave if I was searching for one.

Considering this whole forum lives in Cali I'd imagine they just aren't into it but I'd love to be able to surf regularly.

punxva
08-12-2010, 02:17 PM
agree'd the best thing you can do at first is not actually worry about standing up, but to get out to the break so learn how to paddle well, and duck dive.

driftsilvias13
08-12-2010, 04:11 PM
Also I'd suggest starting off on a long board such as a 8'-10' and then work your way down. Dont try to look cool right away by getting a short board because you wont progress that way.

driftsilvias13
08-12-2010, 05:26 PM
Trust me, swimming has nothing to do with it.

Best bet is to look on CL for a used board for like $100. Just make sure its water tight. Doesnt need to be pretty and go consistently. Let us know how it goes! The first time you actually stand up will feel amazing haha.

Not as cold as over here on the eastcoast bruddah! LOL. I'm rockin an old ripcurl 3/2 (backzip) with o'neill mutant 6mm boots for the fall. Currently water is about 59deg F and air is in the high 30s-40s F during dawn patrol. When it "really" gets cold I use my new hooded Xcel Infiniti 5/4/3 fullsuit with those boots, and O'neill lobster claw gloves. It's supposed to go double overhead in AC (of all places) but firing everywhere by Saturday!

If I could choose the best wetsuit for the money I'd go for: 1. XCEL Infiniti 2. West lotus, 3. Hyperflex Amp. Take it from an eastcoast winter surfer ;-)
