Anybody know how much exhaust pressure is in the egr pipe when engine reved? specifically the pressure in the small tube that goes from egr valve to bpt valve? I cant feel any pressure with my finger and it is not lifting the bpt valve. not sure if it is low pressure or if bpt valve is weak. if i blow in bpt valve where exhaust goes it works.

second problem is that the ecu is telling the egr solenoid to keep egr valve closed when egr should be open. car is warmed up and the ecu is reading normal coolant temperatures. the only thing i can think of is that the crank angle sensor is defective or ?

for starters i would clean out the the exhaust tube to the bpt valve bfor rplacing any parts it may have carbon in it clogging it up

What year is your car?? What motor are your running?? KA-E, KA-DE, KA-Turbo, SR?? Do you have a Factory Service Manual for your motor / car??

On a KA-E, (89-90) and earlier KA-DE motors, (91-94), the BPT valve is controlled by either one or two solenoids that are hidden behind the motor close to the firewall. If those solenoids get clogged up or fail, you won't get pressure to the BPT valve. Same also applies to the vacuum lines leading up to the solenoids. You have to make sure the vacuum lines are still intact & properly connected to the solenoids.

If you can get your hands on the Factory Service Manual, it will show you how the vacuum lines are run & how to test the solenoid,(s). I learned all this stuff from a buddy who couldn't pass California Smog due to a failed solenoid. No pressure to the BPT/EGR valves leading to high NO readings. Once it was fixed, he passed....

Hope this helps...

great but that has nothing to do with my problem. I have a weak exhaust signal to bpt or weak bpt. just wanted to know how much pressure is coming out of bpt exhaust tube.

Im wondering if there is an internal passage in egr valve that delivers gas to bpt exhaust tube. my bpt tube is clear and i can put wire throught it right into egr but nothing is coming out of bpt tube when a ton of exhaust gas is flowing through egr. confused.

on the EGR valve you have the vacuum hose that lifts the plunger to open the hardline from the exhaust, and you also have a line that connects to the bottom of the BPT that helps the BPT regulate the amount of vacuum that the EGR recieves

that help?

tried seafoam?

tried seafoam?
seafoam on old motors with high mileage isnt always a good thing, since its usually the carbon build up thats keeping ur motor runnning...:D

LOL but true my buddy blew the rings in a JDM motor he bought for his TT z32 not even 30 min after first start cuz of seafoam.

hahah ive heard stories of that where the only thing keeping compression is the carbon build up hahaha i seafoam mine every 3000 miles when i change the oil, since ive owned the engine and its continued to perform flawlessly pretty happy about that

nope. i need to know about the internal channel in the egr that carries the exhaust gas to the bpt tube. im guessing there is a very small channel inside egr that is easy to clog. the exhaust pressure is dramatically reduced before it goes to bpt tube.

im applying compressed air an carb cleaner directly to the area. i just want to know how big the internal channel is in the egr valve. the channel that delivers the exhaust gas to beginning of bpt tube. never heard anybody experienced say anything good about seafoam.

just take one of your multimeter probes and bridge the positive and negative wires of the egr solenoid at the back of connector. my wires were both missing a bit of the plastic but i think you can do it where the wires come into connector.

hmm i dont think sooo...there is that metal hardline that goes into it you its a bubble flared one similar to the brake lines you could easily take it out and clean it if its clogged or spray some TB cleaner in there?

Don't need 3 threads on the same subject.

well, it took the egr valve off easy. the bpt tube sticks
