ok.. u might call me stupid, or ignorant... w/e.. but i've searched the internet.. and from what i've searched i cant find anything of use... my questions is: I have a 95 nissan 240sx with a s15 conversion kit and a rb25det, a custom radiator to fit it, the problem im having is, the clutch fan that's on it, is extremely close to the radiator, and around 3k RPM's the fan flex's and start's hitting the radiator.. so i took it off and put an electric fan on it, but it's not keeping it cool enough.. so im wanting to know how many CFM's ill need on a electric fan to keep the car cool... (btw.. i only have about... 3 inch's from the radiator to the pulley's.. so ill need a low profile electric fan D: ... incase anyone post's any links)

get some dual slim fans and put the fan shroud back on.

well, i dont have the fan shroud (i guess the guy whom i bought the car from took it off?.. that or it just didnt fit anymore... who knows?) and i plann'd on getting 2 slim fans since 2 covers more of the radiator than 1... but i dont know how much CFM i need to keep it cool..

ok.. here's an update for what the clutch fan/radiator/front of the motor looks like.. so u have an idea on how much room i have to play with here.. do i have the wrong sized radiator? or maybe the wrong clutch fan? i dunno.. i just know its hitting the radiator and knocking chip's in the fan.. and worse.. slowly eating into the radiator O_O

It is definately not smart to run the fan that damn close!
Say good bye to that radiator if you hit a bump the wrong way.

that's why im wanting to go with eletric fans.. or a smaller clutch fan.. if that is entirely possible... , but before i decide to spent 400$ on some E-fan's.. i was wondering how much CFM ill need, so i dont waste the money for something that will just overheat the car...

You can have your fans setup up as pushers (before the radiator).

hey man i jus use Altima fans that i got at the junkyard for $20 and wired it up to a toggle switch in the car. a fan setup def should be no where near $400 :coolugh:.

Agreed, junkyard is going to be your friend, or just a good fan that is slim enough to fit

well, there's already 1 pusher fan in the front.. but it's not enough to keep it cool, even with a 16'' E-fan that's got 1500 CFM (autozone special? :P) but the car was still going up to 108 degree C... would Altima fan's be slim enough to fit between the motor and radiator? O_o

Ok... Update to that... Doesn't matter now, there's nothing to cool.. Headed to the junkyard the fan exploded and blew through the radiator.. Sitting on the road now waiting for my brother to come with a trailer

Remove the clutch fan, and install a pull style fan. Try to duct it as well.
Depending on if you only drive your car during warm weather, you could try running on distilled water, and water wetter.
CFM isn't always most important if you cant direct anything to the fan for it to do its job.

LOL that sucks.... go to mishimoto:
get mishimoto radiator fan with built in fan shroud
get mishimoto radiator
get mishimoto water wetter stuff.... run all water and that water wetter stuff...
get mishimoto thermostat...
Finally do shit right or you going to be doing shit all over again.... Junk yard stuff is sometimes junk and cooling stuff I would never get from a junk yard....

lol u were warned but that sucks it happened right before trying to fix it but either get the mishimoto fan radiotor combo now or altima fans with a raditor should be fine

Well I had a mishimotor radiator...

The altima fans and taurus fans won't clear an RB swap at all to the best of my knowledge...
The only thing that cleared my friends RB20 in his S13 was FAL fans on a stock KA radiator. I had FALs on my SR with a koyo and it wasn't enough to keep me from overheating it but that was after 10 minutes of nonstop drifting...

Interesting.... hmmm....
Maybe you can mount the rad inside the supports and stuff

Altima fans will not fit on an RB without modification. Same thing with Taurus fans.
I was having the same problems with overheating my RB at the track. I was using dual 12" electric PUSHER fans on the front of the radiator, but it was still getting pretty hot, and I have a 3" Griffin radiator. I finally just went crazy and cut my core support out and moved the radiator forward about 4-5". Now I'm running a Taurus puller fan.

Moving the radiator forward is the only real option... It opens up the engine bay enough to run large CFM fans. Altima and taurus fans will definitely be enough, but theres other mods to do...

Cut the rad support. Ill take pics of mine. And show you the clearance I have as a result of cutting the rad.

Also good luck keeping the RB cool. Better have a vented hood, wrap the mani, dp and etc

Thanks for the imput guys. I took the radiator out and took it to a shop, 70$ to fix it, so thts not bad.. And I checked mishimoto for some fans.. Closest I can get will put them about 1/4 of an inch from the pulleys... Dunno if that's enough room to keep it cool.. If I have to cut the front clip back, would that hender the strenght? And would I still be able to put the front bumper on it? It's kinda my daily car... Also the weather I live in sucks... Hot and muggy..

I would definately move that radiator/electric fan further by cutting the rad support a bit. I wouldn't worry too much about strength, the bumper support and all the bumper mounting stuff will make it rigid enough. Good luck with your fix man.

You should be fine cutting the upper radiator support, its flimsy anyways... your front end strength is all in the front bumper bar and frame rails, wont have to mod your bumpers but you might have to take out the ac condenser if you have one

Ok.. So I'll possibly have no AC? Or is it possible to relocate that

you could always move the engine back... but that's a whole different can o worms.
Actually, you could probably try to angle the radiator, FD's have angled radiators.

They come stock with their own little v mount setup, but they are well ducted to do so.
As I said prior, it is all in directing the air to and through.

ok.. so update on everything.. i cut the radiator support, and moved the radiator foward 3 inchs.. took out the A/C condenser and put a fan i got offa 2000 for winstar O_o ... on it.. and so far it's doing good... the hottest it's gotten is 83 degree Celsius and it's 90 degree F outside atm.. also running 65% water, 30% antifreeze and 5% water wetter.. but that's just on casual cruising, with alittle bit of play, not full out drifting/racing it.. so i dunno if i will need better fan's or not.. but it's just a temp fix until i can come up with a few hundred for mishimoto fan's
