Hello :) Help :)

Can't make up my mind should I buy an Apexi intake kit or one of ebay intercoolers? In the future I'm hopping to have them both (and some more), but now I'm saving for my master degree so I'm on a low budget.

Maybe there's a technical issue I don't know of, and there is no choice in this mater?

My car: '96 s14 with custom free flow exhaust. (SR20DET)

After these humble mods I plan to get it tuned.. if I buy an intercooler I'll probably buy a HKS adjustable turbo actuator as well....

If you're saving for a Master's Degree, I suggest you ditch your car and get a Toyota Echo. You won't be broke.

:D don't know what that echo is but i'm not THAT broke =] And for me a lot is diffferent since I live in Lithuania. I'm not here to talk about economics.
I want to know won't my stock intake chocke if i put an intercooler and up the pressure or smth?

just get both the same time...I don't think a $200 ebay FMIC + apexi intake will hurt your pocket that much..

Id go an Intercooler over an Apexi Pod Filter.. but then i wouldnt go an eBay intercooler try score yourself a used Brand name like those Greddy LS.

And pod filter wise i wouldnt go Apexi they arent "that" good its more JDM Wank factor.

A fmic would provide more power than an intake.

Buy a Godspeed fmic or something.

Most ebay parts that do not move are fine.

Thank You All :) then I'm sticking to intercooler+actuator =] my local tiuning rally mechanics said the same and advised me against a bigger air filter. oh! and added :" in germany where they have good roads- maybe, but here, where half is almost gravel I wouldn't bother".

Now I'm searching for that actuator but ... what is the stock s14 turbo pressure?

What is wrong with those ebay intercoolers? read few responses about them not on ebay, fellows seemed quite pleased. one even got a 19hp difference on a dino.. spotted no negative feeedback concerning intercoolers..
Well I know that the quality isn't that great but I'll probably stick to 270-290hp if i get lucky no more then 350. maybe the ebay intercooler will hold this :)

Correct me if im wrong, but the difference between egay shit and real intercoolers is not their ability to hold boost, but actually become a heat soak. I think i read it on zt or something but it showed how a greddy or other high quality intercooler stayed relatively cool throughout the test while with the ebay, after one run it was completely heat soaked.

If anyone else has anything to add please do! im in the market for a intercooler for my sr...

I actually bought that PBM intake for a t25... Curved and orange, its dope.

correct me if I'm wrong but if the pressure isn't that high then the intercooler won't be suscepted to that much heat.
Anyway, point taken, and serious one, will heave to think about alternatives...

I visited my local rally/tuning house, they had a serious project going on, welll there's always something serious going on. Those guys know there stuff. Just by looking at the photos of ebay intercoolers they announced the piping crap =) So know I'm definetly staying away from them :) They said they'll find a good intercooler and manufacture the piping =)

Should have believed you all from the very beggining ;) live and learn

P.S. the shop keeper is a friend of my good aquitence, so I doubt they would be fooling me.

Do you guys have access to a brand called 3A racing in the states? Its fairly popular down here.. it reviews higher and proven better than Apexi, and they are only about $30 New here aswell..

Check out the below PDF.

At least where I live there is no a3 dealing outo parts... =/

Don't know which to believe, but I found quite a straight forward air filter test/review puting apexi at the top (out of hks, k&n and bltiz). and k&n scoring second. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

P.S. Joy :) the mechanics had a greddy intercooler with all the piping. It's from an s13 with an sr20det... thou I'm a bit worried that the intercooler mounting point will be not the same distance away from the engine.... (mine is s14)

If you want a good intercooler, check out Full Race's (http://www.full-race.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=834_837_859&products_id=1015).
These have a unique internal design that maintains your boost pressure, adds HP, and seriously drops charge temps. I recently went on a tour at their shop, and they run a tight game when it comes to quality and real performance.

I hope you have a different 3A racing in down under.

Welcome to American Auto Accessories (http://www.3aracing.com/)

Look at their product line. Awesome as it always has been.

I think they're sold at Kragen (Checkers/Schucks, Autozone) and all those other high end parts shops.

The AU brand if its different should seriously think about changing their name.

BTW don't know if it's just me but every time I see this company I remember APC. (There is probably something to that)
