I don't have any pictures of it mid fire, just one of me directing the firefighters where to look for flame.

You'll forgive the iphone photos, I'm sure.

So here's the story.

Saturday I was at my local drift event at HPT in Topeka Ks. I was not participating, my drift car is down for a motor swap. Before I departed for Kansas City I decided to check my tire real quick like because I knew the tread was getting low. [It downpoured on the highway when driving to the event and I got sideways...] Sure enough I was showing tread on both rear tires, a little worse on the passenger side. Fronts weren't terrible.

I tossed the spare on the passenger rear and started my 40mi journey to KC doing the reccommended 55mph. When going thru some construction a semi pulled on my ass, I looked back up at him a moment later to see smoke billowing into his head lights.

Immediatly had my driver pull over and call 911 while I ran to the rear of the car and checked the flame out. There was a smallish flame on some gunk on the rear diff. It was NOT coming from inside the diff though. 2 semis drove by and fed the flame some uneeded oxygen and caused the fire to spread. It had now taken over the diff and started working its way thru the rest of the rear. I decided it was a good time to grab my **** and get away from the vehicle.

Fire dept showed up, put the flame out and I got the vehicle towed. I do have full coverage so it is covered.

Fast foreward to today.

I called my insurance co. [Progressive] to get some info. My rep said that the fire started from the wires on the fuel pump. [I did not see ANY flame anywhere other than on the diff] and the reason I "thought" it was on the diff is because the fuel tank is located DIRECTLY above the rear diff.

They're attempting to fix it and not total it out, what should I look out for? Burnt thru rubber on my control arms, diff seals rotted from the heat, etc...

I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I did not, feel free to ask questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Wow, that's crazy. Good thing your okay and caught it in time.

So is that the original fuel pump in there? Are there any other WRX cases like this?

Right. I was assisting cone workers all day on the track and was tired as hell so I let my friend drive the car home. Would have happened no matter who was driving.

Bummer dude!
Is it true that Derek-bro's car caught on fire that day, too?

His dump tube. Nothing serious.

Funny the day started out getting wet and ended with fiyah.
