I'm in the market to buy a front and rear strut tower bar and noticed that there are a lot of used ones for sale. I'm looking at getting some cuscos. Basically, I want to know if a strut tower bar and the mounting stand can wear down over time. Should I just get new ones? One more thing, I remember reading something about Avance bars or something like that and ruf sells them. Are they any good?

"strut bar" and "fast" just don't seem to go together at all.
here's the deal:
if you want a strut bar, get one that looks good (to you) and fits your budget. nothing else matters. they are all the same. some are lighter...but that's it. they just "close the box" in your suspension. a $30 one does the same thing a $200 one does.
Strut Bar = Engine Bay Bling

yeah, i fail to see how a $200 strut bar is worth more than a cheap one besides the bling factor.
i got mine for $15 off ebay. fit perfectly, super strong, and as of right now it looks fine, although i'm sure the finish will corrode eventually. no big deal though.

strut bars are mostly the same.. don't get ones that are too cheap tho, cuz they may bend and are mostly cheaply made... get ones that have thick sturdy brackets, and make sure ther bar itself is solid, if it's not solid, make sure it's reinforced.... but this is all just my opinion...

My dad is a welder and said he could make me some if he saw them. What type of metal is preferrable? Steel, right? Is the tubing hollow? This is just an idea. Anyone else try to make their own strut tower bar?

OK. I didn't recognize the name-dropping that time...you were too smooth for my JDM-tYte-detector Dousan ;):p
Avance does ROM tuned ECUs too. But I won't be getting one anytime soon. Or ever.
