Ok i've been aound here for a while. So I just picked up my '91 240sx today. After i got home i had it parked for a wile and i took it for a spin. So after the drive, i came back and parked it in the drive way so i can take a look of it outside the garage. When i walked into the garage i noticed a spot of oil on the ground. Seems like im leaking oil!:( What can this leak be from? tranny?oilpan? or anything else? new car and oil leak already..:bash:    :bs:  :wtc: :p :( :mrmeph:

actualy this doesnt require a search in my opinion

oh do this...get under the car..look at where it dripping from...try to trace the path of the oil to the leaking source

we could give u all kinda places to look to waste your time but to fastest way to find it is to trace the path of the oil from its source

wouldnt u say so??

Hey man, if you still are not having luck, check these four popular areas:
1)Oil Pan gasket and/or oil pan drain bolt leaking
2)Oil pressure sending unit leaking
3)Cylinder head cover leaking
4)Engine oil seals leaking
5)Oil filter leaking (not tightened)

I bought some Super HIGH TACK gasket sealant...you think if I juss apply directy on the leak..it would stop? I think it's like a messed gasket or seal..:hammer:

as I was sayin....

so wut bout it Muzzy? that that stuff I bought would work if I find the actual leak?

If it were to work, you would have to do an EXcellent prep job to the area your are applying it to, and if its leaking while the stuff is setting it might just not work at all. Or just live with the leak and check the oil/fluids often.

Muzzy

yea dude...like norcal said it depends on the degree of leakage...if it jus constantly leaks...nope if it only leaks underload..maybe

im sleepy right now...i'll look more into it tomorrow (today)
i'll have a better answer for u then...more detailed possibly or a real solution

mistaanime

yeah..it doesn't seem too big of a deal..it's not leakin very much...I juss dun want the leak too be coming outta the gear box.

Muzzy
07-22-2003, 11:38 AM
havent looked yet but i'll say this..check your engine oil level..if its not going down it may just be the gearbox

mistaanime
07-22-2003, 11:43 AM
aiite I juss check the engine oil...not low..so It's good. probably the gear box..You know anywhere the gear box mite leak?

check around the sensors along the tranny and that big square plug at the bottom

your clutch still works right???
does it slip??

mistaanime
07-22-2003, 01:12 PM
mh clutch still works and yea..it dun slip..I was checked the square plug. Seems to be ok..but I think it may be loose..i see a lil oil around it..I jus dun have the socket to screw it in any tighter..

Muzzy
07-22-2003, 01:14 PM
to tighten it use a 1/2" breaker bar...if u got one

mistaanime
07-22-2003, 01:14 PM
hmm.....you know wut?...after reading some of the messages again..My dipsick shows that I poured a lil too much oil in the engine after changing the oil...could tht be the case by any chance?

Muzzy
07-22-2003, 01:33 PM
dont think so...actually it might burn it off kinda and make the car a bit sluggish...i know it did when they were doin the EG6/B16 project in SCC. after they put the correct about of oil in it was back to normal...but they had a couple quarts too many

well..jus guessin..but oil doesnt compress and pressure is built up n the motor and if too much oil is in it it possible it could leak
but thas a crazy guess
it could jus be a simple leak
how much over are u??

From the description, it sounds like the rear main seal.

You can try some stopleak. If it works, great. If not, ouch. Stopleak usually takes care of places that aren't under pressure, but main seals are. Whether it is your transmission or engine can't be told by looking at a dipstick. It takes a long time for enough oil to drip out to be seen on the stick :P

Basically, the seal is a cheap part, but a biznatch to get to. If you bought from a dealership, see if they will take care of it for you. Rear main seal means removing such fun things as the transmission and clutch.

There is no need to PM this conversation. . . It is still general questions.

Stopleak is a generic term I use (prolly a brand name of sorts) for some goop that goes into your oil and solidifies in leaks.

Anyhow, we still need more information. Like. . . exactly where the leak is :P

Muzzy

well we think its the rear main seal...but yea dude take an indepth look at your motor trace the path like i said

then we can actually tell u what to do instead of guessin
