Hey all, my cruise control isn't working. How can I go about checking this problem to get it going? The girl I bought it from didn't say anything about it but it wasn't working for her either at the time. My car is a 5 spd if that helps anyone. Thanks all.

From fuses to bad switches to loose or dislodged cables to a bad vac line...

I found boucoup info in search on mine...but have not taken the time to repair it yet..

Going to the meet today in Melborne?

The cruise control on my car(89 5sp) is real iffy most of the time. Alot of times the problem is the switch below the clutch not disengaging. When I get on the highway I usually need 1-3 clutch kicks to get the cruise to come on.

One time it quit completely for a while, until I replaced a fuse in the drivers side kick panel while looking for an AC problem. I don't really remember which one, just check to see if any of them are blown.

man my car is a piece, haha

try pulling up on the clutch pedal with your toe. sometimes it doesn't come ALL the way up, and that won't let the CC turn on cuz there's a microswitch at the top of the clutch pedal too.

dude i thought the same thing about my cruise control. and then i realized that when i drive, i rest my toe on my clutch pedal. if its pushed in even a half inch, it will cancel the c/c. so just get up to speed, put ur foot on the dead pedal, and then try.

WOOHOO thanks for all the advice, I lifted the clutch pedal with my toe and it works! That was it the whole time! Thanks all again!

Figured I would dig this up from the grave since it was already here...

Anyway, the cruise control in the wife's 240 doesn't work either. Well the light in the dash comes on and it will halfass hold speed but any time the road goes on any type of incline or decline it will turn off. Also, if you are driving on a straight road, the cruise will turn on and sorta hold the speed, but it constantly drops lower and lower, then the cruise finally turns off. I know it is sorta working because it slows down much slower than if I had just let off the gas, but it shouldn't slow down at all.

I have checked the fuses and they appear to be ok and I changed the switch in the dash (on off button) but that didn't fix the problem. I don't see anything broken on the actuator, but I do get a click down by the ECU whenever the cruise engages. Any ideas?

Check two things:

1. The vacuum line to the cruise control diaphragm
2. The cruise control computer (if you have an 89-90, they have a separate piggy-backed cruise computer). See if it's fully plugged in and properly grounded.

Other than that, I'm not sure. Maybe check the cable tension on the cruise throttle cable?

Or just drive with your foot :-)

Just cut the wires heading to that switch and short them together.
