View Full Version : s13 and s14 diff ratios?

So my rear end blew up and I believe my ring and pinion is the culprit.
I have a s14 with clutch type lsd inside a s13 case with s14 cover.
I am reading from different places... the rear end ring/pinion ratio for the s13/s14 is 4.08 while other places say the s14 is 4.08 and the s13 is 3.91
I got a s13 abs diff for the replacement... some places say its also ~.75inch longer , some places say that they are the same....
Anyone know the truth? Can I just swap all the internals in the abs casing and put it in my non-abs s13 casing?

S13 and S14 are 4.08.
I've heard that S13 verts were 3.91.
You'll need an ABS driveshaft if you use the ABS diff case, because the snout is longer than the non-ABS model.

and by longer he means exactly 0.50". I just swapped from an ABS housing VLSD carrier to a KAAZ unit I installed in a non-ABS housing. The difference, side by side is 1/2". I would assume the pinion shaft is different as well; I don't see how it couldn't be.
I also noted that I can cruise 80MPH at just over 3k RPM. There must be a difference between auto and manual gear ratios; not chassis or ABS system specific. I know that in my Cherokee, which I know is not related, which is a 5 speed model, I have a 3.07 and the automatic models got a 3.55. This makes sense b/c an auto would have one less gear.

hmmm so s13 and s14 both 4.08? what about abs s13? pinion shaft different also??
anyone with that can confirm their speed at the top of 2nd gear? I am right about 56-58mph at 6500rpm or so.

Incorrect. All 240SX cars came from the factory with 4.083.

The propeller shaft is different from ABS to non-ABS.
