recently started up a rebuilt motor with a topmount gt30r turbo and it seems to be leaking. found oil around turbo/inside charge pipe. i've heard that kinked or blocked oil drains could cause this. would a 90* fitting off the turbo cause this too? line is not kinked but i have a 90 deg fitting coming off the turbo for the drain.

any help would be greeatly appreciated. thanks!

Could be, supposed to make the drain lines to be near straight as possible.

wow so even that minor of a bend could back it up like this?

Think of the viscosity of oil... then take out that 90. Then rinse and repaeat. Then inspect your turbo. If its in you charge pipe you may have a problem with seals in your chra? Is it a ball bearing turbo? I'm not fluent enough on turbos to advise any further than that but plenty of people on here are.

almost positive that your not supposed to have anything greater than a 45 on a oil drain and cant be more than 15 degress off center as this will cause "puddling)..

yeah i had this happen on my other turbo. i was runnin a wierd angle on my drain tube and the same thing happened. my seals started leakin on both sides and i was burnin oil. ive rebuilt the turbo now, and ive got a 45* fitting on it and it works awsome. so basically like they said you gotta keep it as free flowin as possible.

also is the gt30r a ball bearing? im runnin a 2860 rs and im usin a restrictor cause i was told that the chra cant handle much over 40 psi before the seals start leakin, so you gotta run a restrictor. i dunno if that matters or not but im runnin the .35 on mine. and ive been driftin on it for about a year now, runs great.

Yeah the drain doesn't see pressure, but it sees quite a bit of volume, that 90* fitting could be causing trouble especially if your oil feed is at directly 12 o'clock. I'd recommend changing the drain setup, or if that's not possible going to a 45* or clocking the CHRA so there's less of an angle.

k i'll swap the fitting to a 45* and hopefully that solves the problem. i already have a restrictor on the turbo as well so that shouldnt be the case. thanks guys!
hopefully i wont have to rebuild this turbo before even running it
