Hello Everyone, *PLEASE HELP*
I've been looking for a car for a while now in my price range (up to 5k) and would like to purchase a 91-94 240sx. As this will be my first car (i'm 17) i have many questions for u experts. First with a car of this age comes wear/tear and high mileage. I have read many reviews on the s13 and they have been mostly favorable on the issue of reliability. What is your experience? I expect the normal repairof high mileage car i.e. clutch replacement, but I'm a student and work part time and cannot put up with a constantly malfunctioning car. Futhermore, i know insurance doesn't come cheap for teenaged males. I've gotten one random quote online and am waiting on other. I figure it would probably cost 150-170 a month to insure the car, this i can afford. Am i buying naive, or is this a reasonable price to expect? Finally i'm aware of the reputations of these cars to be unpredictable in inclement weather. I live in Wisconsin which has it's fair share of snow and ice. Is it naive to think I could get through the winter by driving carefully or will i most likely end up in a ditch? What about putting two hundred pound bags of salt in the trunk? I know this isn't the best for the shocks and struts, but will it keep the cars back end down in wetness? Thanks for your help.

Try Direct insurance. I'm 17 also with a 93 240, and I only pay $83 a month (for liability and uninsured). And get a 240, you won't regret it!

I just bought a 92 240sx and i have had nothing but joy with the car. I love it. But i have only had it for 2 weeks.
but I have already experienced great fun with this car.

Go 240 you'll get hooked.

not sure about the weather deal i live in canada so i to have totaly bought naive, but just go find a couple and take them for a drive you'll love it. get manual for sure.

damn, 5 years agp when i got my license at 17, i was paying 220 a month on a 1986 nissan sentra. for minimal coverage( no collision)

for winter, throw a bit of weight in the back, get some good all season or even snows, and drive like you know its a light rwd car.

Drove mine through a Buffalo, NY winter like this and had very few problems. My 240 has 180k miles (91 FB) and aside from having just replaced the clutch, the engine runs perfectly smooth. Obviously, just make sure you do standard maintenence, i.e. oil, tranny fluid, diff fluid, and the what not, and it shouldn't give you any problems.

Any car will drive poorly in snow with the wrong tires, get snow tires and LSD. Make sure you don't jump on the first car you look at. If you don't know enough to pick out the right car yourself, don't hesitate to take it to someone who will look it over for you. Just be careful, buying used cars is a big risk if you don't know what you are looking for. Get a car with no previous accidents (carfax wont be enough, get that biatch on a lift and look at the frame). There, that's my standard reply to this sort of question.
