hey all, i just replaced my air box with a cone intake. I got a question though... When i had the airbox on, the MAF plug and some other type of hose was connected to the air box. the intake i have now dosn't have anywhere to plug that hose into. What is that hose? what should i do with it?
BTW this isn't a cold air intake kit... just the cone intake thing.
any help would be greatly appredaited

It's a hose that goes to a little black plastic box that's attached to a metal thingy with a big hard line going into the exhaust manifold right? If so, that's the AIV. It's an emissions device (works only at idle IIRC). You can remove the whole thing if you cap the exhaust manifold inlet off; or you can find a little breather filter to fit that hose and just stick it in there.

yea looks like the AIV. Will my setup affect emission results? I have to get emissions passed in a few weeks.

If you leave everything in and just find a breather filter for that hose, it'll function just like it was stock.

Do you guys have a "visual" inspection in virginia for smogging? Or is it just a straight emmissions test?

oh yeah, I didn't think about that...doesn't VA have some funky laws about modifying street cars?

maybe i'll just put my stock air box on before i get emissions done. 10 min process.

BTW, i'm usnig a peice of paper towel as a filter for the AIV.. I tried blowing through it and apparently it dosn't flow as well as a tipical air filter would... so what exactly does the AIV do?
Ya know whats very easy... You toss an E-mail to the emmisions place for your state and you ask them questions. Thats what I did.
And for any who are wondering if you live in Washington they dont care what is in the engine bay. As long as its an engine that is in the states IE: SR20DE and as long as it passes the emmisions for your car. They will sign a waver saying thats your A.O.K
Kewl to know. So if I ever SR swap. its totaly legal. or turbo or anything for that matter. as long as it passes!

Va has the crutial laws when it comes to modding cars, the inspection in some places is just safety. I know stafford county has emissions, where i live they dont, but you're not legally allowed to modify your car in VA. Thats why we are ****ed with here...
**** VA!
