Is that a true statement that premium gasolines burn slower than regular gasolines?

Higher octanes burn slower and more complete than low octanes. Your car may or may not benefit from a higher octane. pinging is flash burning in the combustion chamber of a low octane fuel...where higher octane burns longer in the spark cycle allow the P U S H of the piston and not just hammering on it.
Their is no gurantee your car will go farther on a high octane tank than a lower octane tank...but if your car ever pings with gasoline, you need to get the timing checked and raise the octane level.
I suppose most Zilvia members burn premium fuel. I certainly do.

yep.
More accurately the octane causes it, it just happens that premium has the highest octance. Really I don't think premium is any better than regular gas, unless of course that's what your engine requires.
Basically the higher octane requires more energy to break the chemical bonds than a lower octane would.

My car doesn't pings, but I noticed that with higher octane gasoline it last a lot longer than low octane gas. Anyway I'll keep using what the Zilvia members uses.
What about Octane boosters, are they any good?
Thanks

If they have stock SOHCs then they're wasting their money. Now, yours, with the aftermarket ECU and other changes can use it.
Before I hit the track I fill my 240SX with 89, just as added insurance in the hot, dense air and constant high rpms at the track. Otherwise it gets nothing but the factory recommended 87.
All the fuel grades at a particular pump get the same additives. Octane is the only difference.
My Mazda sees nothing but 87 also.

Generally, no. They're just not potent enough to raise octane by much.
The only "octane booster" worth my money would be pure toluene.

Not sure if it's cost effective to run regular gas and add an octane booster if that's what you're implying. Unless you are running a heavily modified you should be fine on pump premium. A bunch of the formula really don;t raise octane as high as they seem to claim either.
Personally I don't like the idea of an octane booster for the reason that what's in your tank ends up as largely a lower octane fuel with something mixed in to create higher octane. While I have no proof it's not as good, I would imagine that a formula for 91 is better than a blend of 89 and 93 or in your case XX octane plus however points. Seems like some of the chains are short and others longer and you runner a higher risk of those predetonating versus a more consistent formulation of all (or mostly) 91 octane chains. Like I said I have no proof I'm right.

So what would you use to keep the injectors clean all the time?

a bottle of injector cleaner every 3k miles?

Toluene..
Wicked, plays hell with the rubber hoses...bit mixed right:boink:
Techron by Chevron is good stuff. I like it, I use it, it is expensive, I use one bottle every 4 tanks. Good Good stuff IMHO.

in my '90 240sx i used 89 octane all the time and had no trouble at all. as soon as i added an octane booster, it cleaned the fuel injectors and i guess the injectors had cracks in em and so they started to leak...
i stay away from octane boosters and fuel injector cleaners... just use 91 octance all the time. my car loves it and it's only $3 or $4 more than fillin up on 87 oct :)

I generally just have the fuel injectors cleaned every 16 months...Take it into the dealership for this service. You can feel the difference when you get back onto the road, better mileage and everything.
It takes so long for things to gum up you dont really notice till theyre clean!
My car feels quicker with super gas too. And keep your fuel filter clean (did you know your supposed to do this every 3 oil changes?!?!?)

for those who are close to the pasadena area, there's a 76 gas station that dispenses 110 octane gas, but i forgot for how much. i wanna check it out sometime. hehe

oh yah...how do you clean the fuel injectors?

110 octane gas? nice... i tried 100 octane gas at a Delta Sonic GS in buffalo. i didn't notice any difference. and i got poor mileage too (well, i only filled up with 100 once... so shouldn't judge the mileage on just one fillup :))
good question... how DO you clean the fuel injectors anyways? (ie, without using the crap in the bottles???)

I filled up on 110 octane once in my former car ('02 Cavalier Z24)... Didnt help much, didnt see a diff in gas mileage and it was expensive as hell... Like $3.00+ per gallon.
Not worth it IMO

i use chevron 91, would taht be the best? does techron really clean engines better than other fuels adn offer more performance?

ok so how do you clean the injectors?
twitchy, how much does the dealer charge to clean them?

When you take it to a dealship they have a couple ways of cleaning injectors. The two I know of is....
1. Taking the fuel line off and hooking up a can of this cleaner/fuel. They hook a air hose to it and run the car till it stalls(the canister empties). This REALLY cleans the injectors and is by far IMO the best way for INJECTORS. Not so sure about it cleaning anything else.
2. Is a three step process. They add some stuff to your gas tank that cleans everything back there. Spray some stuff in your intake to clean that. And something else...:p Sorry can't remember that well. It cleans your entire fuel system and helps to clean the back of your valves and the comb. chamber too.

They put some stuff in your fuel tank (to clean deposits from the lines)
Hook a machine up to the fuel rail that "flushes" everything and cleans the injectors and they also spray something into the throttlebody. It costs $100 CAD

cool, thanks. maybe in a couple months ill do it. and its pretty cheap too, considering the dealer is the one doing it. $100 CAD, thats like what $5 US? hehehehe jk :D

I run 76 gas. They and shell are the only ones i believe that don't use mtbe. That stuff is horrible for the environment and supposedly the stations that use it, there is 1 gallon of it in every 10 gallons of gas. So if that is true, you'd be improving by just going with them vs the same octane of another company.
I run 87 in my S14 most the time, it doesn't like it as much but i don't really care. i run 91 at the track.

Adding toluene to your tank is not going to hurt rubber hoses or anything else like that. About 10% of the gas you normally pump in your tank is Toluene!
Also, if you don't have a turbo 240 or aren't running an aftermarket ECU with more agressive timing, you are wasting your money AND LOSING POWER with more expensive gas. That's right, for best power, you should use the lowest octane rating gas that doesn't cause detonation.
I run premium in my car, but only because it has a turbo running so much boost it'd blow if I ran regular gas. Before the turbo...straight 87...and when I get my spare car (SOHC coupe) up and running as a daily driver, it'll get the 87 as well.

so mtbe only affects environment, what about performance? is this the reason why "nascar uses it"
