Is Hawaii's solution to illegal street drifting (http://jalopnik.com/tag/drifting/) an increased support for draconian law enforcement or enactment of anti-hoon legislation? Nope. Anti-skid road surfaces that have the added bonus of making the roads safer for everyone and faster for enthusiasts. More*ยป (http://jalopnik.com/5543621/hawaii-to-install-anti+drifting-roads)

Yeah i've already posted on this thread on a different forum, the road will still be driftable.

can they really stop ppl from drifting with something like this'?? i think ppl will just adapt like more power to over power the extra grip. they would have to put speed bumps right?

06-07-2010, 12:04 PM
I like that!

Not a bad cost-effective idea, esp if the roads are shitty.
As said before, there aren't ways to get around drifting (if needed be).

Seems like a waste of tax payer's money to me. I am sure a few bad apples will find a way around it.

They should have left the shitty road it had couple years ago before they repaved it lol

Thats the only thing I could think of. Sideways @ 35-40mph? Or gripping @ 50+? I wonder which ones gonna be worse...

I was just thinking the same thing myself. Its kind of like when they started putting bumps on handrails and ledges to prevent skaters from grinding, usually leads to them just finding another place to do it.

Yeah I sitll can't believe you guys don't have a track. I was there a couple of years ago for buildthetrack.com event, and I thought something was going to come from it.

Drifters are set to respond by running even balder tires
lmao

07-07-2010, 10:11 AM
hahaha wow i really thought the governement and local police werent really aware of drifters. here in the bay area, you dont really hear about this stuff, so cops arent taking any action against us. people need to stop drifting intersections and showing off.

Triangles got stopped for sometime. IDK if it's still patrolled. Cross-Roads you can for maybe an hour or 2 before someone comes...

Okay, that's actually kinda funny. And to be honest, cool if it works.

I mean it sucks for drifters who are either starting out or don't have enough power to break the extra traction. And even moreso because it destroys tires faster. It's just like when a new law comes out and people who don't want to abide by it have to get smarter.

Just get yourself 4 of these!

Lol.

Damn, I chose a great time to be stationed in Hawaii... No track, only event is Auto-X at Aloha, and they don't have even have practice days...

This also seems like another one of those cases where the rich people get to spend state/federal money on something useless.

Wow. Hmm, the one benefit is it helps to a little bit more traction to cars that aren't drifting in the rain. It sucks that they can't just use that money to open up a track or something. Kind of reminds me of how some places added some anti skateboarding stuff.

I was just thinking the same thing myself. Its kind of like when they started putting bumps on handrails and ledges to prevent skaters from grinding, usually leads to them just finding another place to do it.

I can relate to this. We either a) find a new spot or b) if the spot is irresistible we just remove the skate blockers or bondo some cracks/bumps/holes and just put some wax on the ledge and skate it again. Unless you completely destroy/remove it we'll keep comming back and skating it because we love what we do. :p

So, in this case just use some shitty bald tires and wax the ground and spray some pam on them wheels. :hahano:

the real work around for this is
start drifting before the extra grippy patches

I bet if you go earlier in the day and drop some dirt. let cars run it over and spread it around all day it would be good to go.

The solution to street drifting is a public track that is opened at all times, just swipe your credit or debit card and you're in, aww its nice to dream. Lol...This sucks..

man thats crazy, i visited maui and wanted to drift the road to hana in my buick i rented hahahaha

Is drifting even enough of a public nuisance?

I may live in Ohio, but I've traveled extensively throughout at least 2/3 of the states in the US, and I've never actually seen street drifting in real life.

It is in low-lying mountainous areas.

I posted the link earlier, but here is a video of how you go about getting around the patched area. Around 1min in.

UUEXAes2jgI

Watching this brings back childhood memories haha, this industrial area is near kinser and I used to actually hear this at night. It's what I went to sleep to, and a big reason why drifting interests me so much. /endcoolstory

[this is a curvy ass road that runs from central to west oahu]... the only option i see is to build the track!!!!!

06-20-2011, 11:30 AM
we have a couple of roads here in ireland with that shite on the corners.

they didnt put them there because of drifters but of bad drivers crashing there.

alls good in the very few spots we can drift in though.

looks like hawaii drifters are going to be doing some balls out sideways from now on :yum:

I wount even try drifting in NY to over populated. I'd have to go out on long island and somehow find a curvy road, it'll just be easier to find a track.
