In all honesty, his mixtapes back then were his best work.

As a guy that grew up as a DIE HARD east coast head (I'm talking WU, Biggie and Nas ALL DAY!) it was hard for me to initially admit Wayne's skill. But boy is sick. Lyricism is on point. Delivery and cadence are superb.

What I really like though, is that you can actually debate about 'Old Wayne vs New Wayne'. That means he's actually growing as an artist. Dude is trying new things instead of sticking with the same old monotonous flow. Yeah, everybody might not appreciate the new direction he's going... but at least he's going.

To me, thats important. It signifies the departure from deing a simple rapper... to an actual artist. Much like when Andre and Kanye came out with their experimental albums: 'The Love Below' and '808s & Heartbreaks'... which I also loved.

Musically speaking, Wayne's gonna be around for a while. God forbid any tradgic death...

yeah, back in the day his rap was better. he was a starting artist and they usually pay attention to their lyrics when they do that - more metaphorical and symbolic. but now its just the same ol' stereotypical rap.
i honestly feel, good rap resembles a story. it isn't just money, and the struggle - or something like immortal technique's style - but it does have a story line to it. It all flows like a book should, but has that rap type of feel to it. Lots of artists lack this quality in their skills and so their music becomes monotonous over time. Lil wayne is improving on this, but he still conforms to the typical mainstream artists, he abides to what the public wants so that he can get more hits rather than being true to himself and his style and rapping just for the love of it. Simply stated, lil wayne has been long sold out.

Oh and as for Drake, hes a phony. He raps about not having anything and wanting it forever. He grew up in a middle-class family. His parents were well off and provided for him in ways other parents in lower class families could not for their kids. He's fake and he most likely doesn't write his own lyrics.
