View Full Version : Does certain stiffness settings on AGX's shorten life of struts than others?

I just installed my KYB AGX's and TEIN S.Tech springs and I was fiddling around with the adjustments. I started off with a stiffness setting of 2 in the front, and 4 in the rear, and I found my ride like an average stiffness. I then up the settings to the max stiffness, 4 in the front and 8 in the rear, the ride seemed like it hugged the road, but I felt every minor bump in the road. I then toned the settings all the way down to 1 in the front and 1 in the rear, the ride seemed like it was luxurious, very smooth. After doing all of the adjustments, I wondered, does leaving it on one setting wear out the struts faster than another setting? Also, does leaving the struts in a softer setting more prone to blowing from a bump than a stiffer setting? I did do a search, but I couldn't find all the answers to these questions. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

IMO...I think KYB thought of this, I'm sure that they won't wear prematurely if you set them at the highest setting. Because really, all that's happening is more pressure, if the seals are good and you take care of them, ie keep the strut covers new and in good shape, then the struts should last at least 5 years, maybe more.
Also the spring height shouldn't matter I think up to 2 inches. They design these struts for use with lowering springs.

I think you should be fine if you run them softer also, because of the same reason, if they were to blow then I'm sure they wouldn't be one of the most favorite models sold to aftermarket car people like us!
If you want to feel at ease, email or contact KYB directly, check their home site.

Just wanted to double-check, because I thought the same too that they would build them to last just as long no matter way their set. I did install the KYB strut boots at the same time using the ziptie at the bottom of each one to secure them. Hopefully they last like they should. Thanks for the reply.
