Got a buddy of mine that is having this problem lately with his SR.
Background
I did the swap…probably about 3-4 years ago never gave any problems….motor was mechanically sound….
S13. SR Redtop.
Catback
Ebay manifold
FMIC
Z32 tt Fuel pump.
Blitz filter
HKS EIDS
Turbo XS BOV....does not leak at idle
Greddy Coolant expansion tank
Everything else STOCK.

About 3 weeks ago about we swapped the turbo for a new S15 spec R…and we are using the stock SR manifold and Greddy Dump pipe.
New plugs NGK Iridums heat range 7
Mishimoto radiator
Braided SS turbo lines. And a new OEM exhaust gasket.

Now the problem that he is having is that the car Misses ….ALOT feels like its running on 2 cylinders.
Takes forever for the motor to rev past 3k in any gear….usually spits n pops.
At about 4k motor will rev fairly smooth but still takes a lot of effort for it to get up to 5k…in third gear.
Idle is a little rough as well…..it use to be very solid no hunting…

Pulled the plugs…# 1 and #3 are good 2 and 4 are pretty black…
Runs super rich…
Swapped ignitor for a known working one….no change….unplugged #2 injector…no change in idle.
Swapped injector for a known good one….idle got better….did the same for #4
Idle got a little better. Still drives like poop…being that the car runs rich I thought one of the injectors was stuck open or leaking past o-ring
I pulled fuel rail…key on….no leaks at all.
Also we checked for VAC leaks…none
Cleaned IACV…no change in idle quality.
Cleaned MAF…made no change.

Im concluding that it’s a spark issue…and not a fuel problem.
Will be working on the car this weekend….will check base fuel pressure.
Will also try to check the individual coil packs.

Anything else that I should be looking for…or check?
Im really stumped and it probably something simple that im missing…
Will also pull codes on ECU….

TIA

Make sure the coilpacks are actually plugged in.

I had this happen once....could have SWORN I snapped them all in, and the #1 wasn pushed on, but not snapped ALL THE WAY on.

Did you plug in the vacuum lines correctly? checked angled or kinked couplers....

yes check the couplers, all of em. sounds like a boost leak.

Yea im 100% positive that all of them are plugged in all the way…

Yea I checked with a vacuum pump/tester. Im getting 19/20 in/HG at idle…I will build a tester and apply positive pressure to the system this weekend..

Yea all the silicone hoses/couplers are clamped tight…

The reason that im thinking its ignition related is injectors were swapped for known good ones.
Only plug number 2 and 4 are fouled.
If it was a boost/vac leak wouldn’t all plugs look similar?
Thanks
Please keep suggestions coming.

That is a good solid vacuum for idle, I'd say.

yea...thats why i ruled out a VAC/boost leak..non the less i will apply positive pressure to the system just to ensure i didnt miss anything...

you experiment with moving coil packs to different cyclindars?

I personally perfer copper plugs...... but did it have issues prior to the plug swap?

im actually going to try and switch the coil-packs with the ones on my motor...to see if that is the problem...yea i told my friend that the copper plus would work great for what his car is used for (DD) running stock boost.
and yea the car ran great prior to turbo/plug swap...no hiccups...pulled good...n he (so he says) doesnt really rag on the car...
hust tryng to determine an appropriate plan of action b4 we work in it this weekend.

Thanks!
