Well I knew I had a oil leak before I changed my oil today. I got some GUNK to flush it out (and to kinda make the leak more apparent). I poured the GUNK in the engine and.....IT WAS LEAKING OUT PRETTY QUICK!!!! About a shot glass (for lack of measurment) came out. So I started the car, ran it the five minutes, drained my oil, changed the filter, and filled up the oil again. I checked the dipstick, full. Started the engine, ran it for about 5 more minutes. I spotted some dripping from the oil pan. Problem is that it's not from the oil pan or seal. It's from up higher. I tried lookin around but it's useless. It looks as if there has been a leak for quite some time and it hasn't been takin care of. So, I plan on driving it and washing out the engine bay then looking for the leak again. Any pointers on finding it would be helpfull. Oh....and now there is a ticking noise from the front of the engine where the timing chain is..... ... Oh, well. I guess I would have had to fix it sometime. It goes with the RPM of the engine and can't be heard after a certain RPM.

GO MAINTENANCE!!!!!

carefully clean the lower side of the engine bay with a heavy duty degreaser to get the oil and gunk off, this may help you spot the leak easier when more comes out...dont do it on your driveway though.

Look at the oil sending unit...

Mine did this..that sending unit was the problem. Replace it. 15 bucks.

Basically there are like three places it could be leaking from if its not the oil pan and it is coming from the front. The valve cover (very easy to spot), the timing chaing cover, or the front main seal. I replaced my front main over the winter and it wasnt too bad. Just start from the top and work your way down. My money is on the front main seal. Both me and my brother (95 SE) have replaced ours in the last 6 months so it seems like a common problem on the 240. Good luck.

I had a leaky main seal as well. Not too tough to get to.

Make sure you pinpoint the problem beforehand, though.

There is oil(residue) on top of the PS pump so I don't know if the front oil seal would be it... I will check that though. Thanks for the input.

Yea when mine was leaking there was oil all over the place that had been slung around by the pulley. It can get pretty messy.

Well then maybe that's it! What is the easiest way you know of checking the main seal itself? Aside from washing out the engine bay.

I brought this back up because I am curious, did you find your oil leak? Were you able to repair it?

I haven't found it yet. I need to get my funds replenished...(I was on vacation from work for the last 2 weeks). Once I get the money then I'll look into it and I'll fix it.
