Hey guys got a quick question.
What methods did any of you use to mount the Silvia hood emblem on a Carbon fiber hood? The hood has no pre-drilled holes. I really want to just remove the two stumps on the backside and just stick the emblem on. That way I can remove it if I ever want and not have any holes. Besides, I'm afraid of drilling into carbon fiber. Might twist and turn the CF and look horrible. Also does anyone have any centering methods or tricks to use for getting it to set just right?
Thanks for any help.

If you must do this, you can file away the mounting pins and then use some RTV (aka Clear silicone adhesive...not silicone II) amd glue it there. In 3 hours, it could stand up to 100MPH driving.
The nice thing about RTV is if you want to remove it, it can be done without wasting the hood...but someone might take a puddy knife and steal it.
Personally, I would just have the badge in my glove box to show and tell folks about it. I am personally not into rebadging things.

Well I'm adding the Silvia theme to my car for the show I'm entering. It will just give it that extra shine to the eye if it has name badges on it.
Thanks for the tip.

Good point, silicone will work, you will need to sand the back of the badge with 200 grit and the spot the small glob of silicone goes on the hood...little ruffing up the surface of the carbon fiber hood. Make your dab of silicone small so it does not worm out of the cracks around the bottem seal A dab about 1/4 inch is plenty...use too much and it will look bad. Just a small amount of clear RTV or Black.
Good luck on your show!

thanks
I'm just wondering is the adhesive on the back of the emblem insufficient for the emblem to stick on by itself? What I mean is, if I remove the studs and just stick on the emblem, will I lose it doing 80 on the freeway?
Hmmm....

If you prep the contact surfaces with 200 grit, you will have a tough time getting the emblem off with a puddy knife.
As I said earlier, good for 100MPH or more. They glue fish tanks (large ones) together with that stuff. It is very strong...don't use too much!
Probably good for 400MPH if you want the truth...the car would come apart before that emblem would come up.
Most emblems are held on with double sided tape! All the GM ones are. Foam backed double sided tape.

Shave the emblem from the back and smooth down with 1000 grit wetsand, then work your way up to 2000 to get a clean surface. Since you stated that this was strictly for show, get a non-binding compound for the hood, so as it does not destroy the hood and sticks during the show. It should hold up pretty well and not leave any traces of residue or prep work on the hood.
There is a sticker emblem adhesive available at your local parts stores, can't remember, but check the decal/customization isle or the epoxy compunds isle. Just get a center balance to measure the center or use measuring tape, can't go wrong there. Since the setup I recommended won't damage your hood, and give you the option to remove it whenever you please, you could just place the emblem to your liking repeatedly with the adhesive.
