K so i just fisnished "building" my first computer and everything works fine, but i bought a radeon hd 4650 and its not being recognized or listed on device manager, so i was hoping some of you computer gurus might be able to help me out. my set up is:

Biostar TA790GX A3+ motherboard
with built in Radeon HD 3300 graphics card
Hitachi 1TB HD
Samsung DVDWBD player
700W power source
AMD Athlon II X3 440 Processor
Windows 7
Adata DDR3 1600g 4GB memory
and an old case i had laying around

My main question/issue is why is it not recognising the 4650 graphics card? It wont even display anything on the monitor at start up, when placed in PCIe 1.
I've searched the internet and found some people suggesting, uninstalling the 3300 graphics card, disabling it on BIOS, installing different drivers, etc. and none have worked.

Let me know what you guys think it might be, your opinions of my set up, and how to improve. thanks.

maybe you have a faulty vid card, or monitor? test out the vid card on another machine if possible. just a thought.

are you getting plenty of airflow into the case? make sure you're not getting overheated.

are there any wires in the way + make sure the card in in snug.

try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers. double check to make sure you download the correct ones too. Also, try re-seating the graphics card into the pcie slot. You have to make sure it's in there pretty tight (thatswhatshesaid) so that the little pin thing can snap into place. if that doesn't work, i would send the card back in for a replacement

That board seems to have some pretty low reviews. If you don't plug in the graphics card does it run fine? Is it possible to try another graphics card on that board?

I'm have old case so i dont have any fans but the cover is off untill i can get some fans. the wires are fine. i have an 20inch led LG E2040T and i think it couldnt be the monitor, unless im missing something. the motherboard comes with a DCCFX-P2 card but it works fine without it and still reads the 3300 graphics card. so im thinking the graphics card is built in. I might be able to test the graphics card on another computer.

thanks for the input guys

K so i went to Fry's electronics where i originally bought the stuff. and it turns out the card isnt compatible with the motherboard. the Card is OEM so i think it has to do with that. I got a new card though and works perfectly fine.

thought i added it on the first post but here it is

ATI radeon hd 5500 series oc to 3.6GHz
Biostar TA790GX A3+ motherboard
with built in Radeon HD 3300 graphics card
Hitachi 1TB HD
Samsung DVDWBD player
700W power source
AMD Athlon II X3 440 Processor
Windows 7
Adata DDR3 1600g 4GB memory
and an old case i had laying around

My cousin told me about "Can you run it?" program where it compares your computers performance to what game you wanna run. I compared it to crysis and everything passes recomended stats except CPU speed.

Just saw new post.

If you want crysis to run smoother get a better card and a more powerful cpu.

that's a good site.

so how does the Over Clocking works? would i need to oc both gpu and/or cpu? with the hardware you mentioned would i need to oc?

no power connector on the card, unless i missed something, i doubt it though...

I wouldn't worry about overclocking at this time. If you get a good enough gpu/CPU you don't really need to OC.

overclocking is not worth it IMO. You can OC either graphics or processor or you can do both.

you gotta make sure you know what you're doing. if you OC too much, there goes your GPU/CPU.

Keep in mind when you OC, your computer gets hotter because of the higher speeds things are running. You'd need good cooling to keep the system running properly.

There's programs out there for you that help you OC properly. check out ATi Tool (ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI and NVIDIA cards (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/))

PS - you'll never run Crysis well. For some godly reason, even the newest PC's struggle with that game. But that's probably because they play at such a high resolution. I'm sure if you turn down the resolution (1280x1024 or less) you should be fine.

if you can, i would return the motherboard and run a ASUS motherboard. If not, run a MSI motherboard.

run antialiasing and anisotropic filtering to the highest, turn your texture filtering to High Quality, and turn Vertical Sync to Force Off. You can leave everything else recommended.
