So yeah i have one of the SE's w/o abs or VLSD, and I need a VLSD badly. I don't want to spend the coin on any of the after market ones right now, but I would like to find one of the non abs VLSD's so I don't have to deal with the slighly shorter drive shaft issue. Anyone know where to score one of these besides JSPEC, they've got one but pickup only. thanks

The non abs VLSD's are from the japan spec 240's, the usdm ones are all abs since it came with the abs/vlsd package. Wouldn't be able to find any in a junkyard...

Well i checked his site and they have one abs model listed, I haven't called him though. I wasn't sure whether he could get the japan spec one or not. I plan on getting the abs model if i have to from him, it actually may just be easier to do that and get some abs driveshafts. I figured i would at least see if i could find the non abs one first. I'll give him a call and see if he can locate one then. thanks.

go to junkyards and look for SE ABS 240s and just take the driveshaft along with the VLSD. i picked up my VLSD ($80) and driveshaft ($30) from some place that didn't know what they had, u'd be surprised what you can find

Z32 NA diffs don't have the ABS sensor on the nose either.
Gotta swap output shafts or use J30 axles to use tho

Yeah that's what I'm trying to avoid....same thing as the abs diff and new drive shafts...but if that would be any cheaper it's a possibility, I suppose it would be easier to find the j30 VLSD since it's in all of them...you may be on to something!
i thot u can just cut out that ABS sensor and it will still work fine. Im looking for a vlsd right now too..looks like im going with the J30 vlsd. everyone's saying its direct plug and play. am i wrong/

if you have a non abs 240 than the drive shafts will be around 3/4 inch too short...now people have just bolted them up and had no problems, and a couple who have had trouble with the smoothness of it; personnaly i don't want to run the risk. I like to do things right the first time and not worry about braking stuff. people do use the non abs shafts, it's personal preference on risk really.
Also whether you knew or not
j30 vlsd has 3.916 ratio
240 has 4.083 ratio
if that matters to you or not;):D

.....not fully correct ;)
You "can" locate Non ABS VLSD's in North American cars, it's just that they are very rare, and hard to find. (we snag and sell any that we find in the Pacific Northwest)
As for an ABS diff fiting into a non ABS car..... essentially the front snout of the ABS diffs are .59 inches longer than the non ABS diffs. The front driveshafts of the cars are all the same length, just the rear ABS driveshaft is .59 inches shorter to accomodate the longer snout.
Do the ABS diffs fit in ? yes. The amount of for-aft play you have in your driveshaft is a fair amount. The front prop shaft area on the 240's has a fair amount of leeway for/aft, and .59 inches won't make or break the seal or fitment.

Aren't these only for s13's though??? If you get one for an S14 please e-mail me or pm me. I am on the hunt for one!

Also note that a JDM VLSD won't bolt in either, because those have 5-bolt flanges like the Z.
opinion follows.
J30 or Z32 would be much easier to go after than a 240SX diff since both those cars had the VLSD standard, and VLSD-equipped 240s are relatively uncommon and hard to differentiate. As far as junkyard parts, to me the 95-up J30 seems like the best option since being in a luxury sedan with an auto transmission it will probably have seen less abuse than your average 240SX or Z32 diff. That's assuming the ~5% taller gear ratio doesn't bother you though.

Crap, i overlooked that... Since there isn't a junkyard in maine that has even seen an s14 before (and there's also only one infinity dealership i know of around me so junkyards probably don't have those either) I'll just get an abs one from you Don. thanks for everyone's input!
