Drag Cars: What a 7 second Street Car looks like

Well Zilvia, this is a bit 'off topic' but figured you guys would like to check out this car my buddy Frank at PSI Motorsports is building.

Specs: 6XX Cubic Inch Ford, 106mm Turbonetics Turbo, Big Stuff 3, 2 chutes. 'True Street' car. They hope to run 7.20's @ 200mph (or more) with this thing.

(True Street requires these cars to drive 30 miles before the drag race day, and then run 3 hot laps for an average time). No wheelie bars, working doors, no fiberglass front ends etc etc. Essentially, this is the 'bare bones' street car class (if you consider laundry on the trunk and an intercooler in the back seat 'streetable') hehe.

FWIW: This is the current fastest True Street car, another car that Frank built.

This car has a best of 7.4x @ 19x MPH. This guy actually drives the thing around his town when he can...as in, has literally taken it to the store and around town. PERFECTLY legal too. Has mufflers, and everythign works. Scarey to think huh ;)

little blurb about last year The third pass I really slowed how fast the boost hit in order to get it down the cold track, and I added a little more gate pressure after the 1/8 to try and make some real boost. Well it got down the front half of the track slow, but it was on a mission out the back until I heard a POP at about the 1000ft mark. The car had no power so I got out of it and coasted through the traps to a 9.30 @ 151.5 mph. The car was still running when I came to a stop and the oil pressure still looked good so I started to drive down the return road. The thing was smokeing bad, which made sence when we popped the hood. The turbine side of the turbo exploded!!!

To think there are gonna be some 'true street cars' in the 6's in the next few years...that is if they keep 1/4 mile racing up. These cars are just going to damn fast for their chassis anymore.

All really depends on class. I'm not 100% sure with these True Street cars. I think it's neat to comapre these cares with Outlaw 10.5 guys as they have such crazy restrictions in one, but none in the other.

Either way, these cars are nutball hairy.

PS: That is one badass looking 4 eye car....wow is that sick!

Umm they have dragsters that run 3's at 300+ mph. Completley not street leagal what so ever or even able to make a complete turn. lol.

Well not to completely call you out BUT. My buddy Bobby (with the flat black mustang that has gone low mid 8's) Drives his car almost daily. The car has driven to a local dragstrip about 50 min away and it was just fine. the car goes out to the street meets ever weekend drives about 20min one way. car also has gone out to a few meets that are over an hour away and he was fine. so yeah that car has seen more street time then some peoples 240's i know.

this is the most foolish statement i've heard in a while...frank drives from the hotel to the race track just to piss everyone else off in the class....this car gets driven a lot just to prove ppl like you wrong

im calling bull shit here...the top fuel cars run 3s in the 1/4
no street car runs 3s in the 1/4...1/8 yes but not 1/4

and yes this depends on class because my aunts boos is Dave Hance(google him) he has the WORLD record for 10.5 radial street car....just over 6 sec. at 223 mph

his other car. 57 chevy pro mod just spent 10 days at my shop. brand new billet aluminum Alan Johnson black and heads on a 580 cu in Hemi with TWIN 94mm pte turbos. car makes near 3680 hp at the wheels!!!:eek2:

ps. dave can runs these times and also go ge his groceries in his mustang. full interioir, stock suspension, and all glass is in the car. car weighs 3400 lbs.
