alright ive done hours and hours of researching for days and nothing i find is consistant. all i find is a bunch of posts from different people that know what they are talking about. first off, my situation
picked up a series 2 rb25 with harness ecu maf, no ignitors with the series 2.
by the importers mistake, gave me a series 1 ecu, code TJ.
harness and maf both came from an ECR33. the maf, i believe is a 3 pin and fits the harness, harness fits in the ecu.
ive found user fabricated ecu pinouts and NOT ORIGINALS, but they show me that ECU pinout between series 1 and series 2 are completely different.
i need to know how i can make what i have work. i only want to go bug Phil @ JEI unless i despritely have to. hes helped me more than enough.
1) will my series 1 ecu work with my series 2 motor and harness?
2) what indicators show that it positively is a series 2 harness? relays? major plugs?
3) what model/year did series 2 rb25s come out of? im getting a lot of different answers. because if its only R34s, then the maf and harness are series 1 and its a matter of swapping out the coilpacks to series 1 and getting an ignitor. ill just convert my series 2 electronics to series 1. CAS are the same, only mechanical difference i know of is the turbo.
dont sit there and withold information from me, ive done my fair share of researching, and its definately not my first swap.
anyone know what happened to racebread's website. there was a lot of sweet info on there.

First of all Series 2 engine do not use ignitior chips, the ignitiors are built into each coil pack
1) post your ECU P/N (right side of the Nissan logo on the sticker) and I can tell you what engine it for, as well as the MAFS. is it a E61? or E60
2) if your harness does not have a spot for an ignitor chip then its a Series II harness
3) R34's came with a Different Series known as "NEO" Engines.
See if you can find a part number on the harness as well.
OR just post a pic of your engine set and im sure we can ID it

i know series 2 didnt have an ignitor chip. ill get all the numbers and take some pics when i get off work. work mids in a comm facility. the way i thought it went, again by misinformed posts, was series one came in 95-96 skylines. series 2 were from like 97-98ish and from 99-02 or whatever were neo engines. you make me sound like a dumbass. a little ignorant. yes. my problem is i cant stick with an engine. had a ca, researched that in an out. moved on to the rb20, same story. went to pick up another rb20, and ended up with a sweet deal on the 25, now im like fuck me i know jack about this motor and i have a week to get it swapped. so forgive me, i feel like im cramming for a test.
i found different pinouts for the series 1 and series 2 ecus. thankfully they are pretty much the same. the only differences were the series 1 ecu missing pins 113(vtc) 115(exhaust gas sensor gnd) 17 (injector pulse signal) and 56 (throttle valve switch power) and 57 (EGT sensor signal) are flipped.
i was under the impression that both motors had vtc. am i missing something?
if these pinouts are right , which i believe they mostly are, i can use my TJ ecu on my series 2 equipment. and if that is the case i need to make sure my maf is compatible with my ecu. the maf i have i know is the correct one for the harness, one is a 3 pin and one is a 4 pin. or maybe 4 and 5, dont recall.
so hypothetically, i have a series 1 ecu with a series 2 harness and a series 2 maf, will the VQ table for the s2 maf be the same as the s1 maf and not have any problems. or do i need to switch mafs?

in this thread damaeon said the s1 ecu will no go with the s2 engine without the wireharness conversion? another misinforming post? i hate forums sometimes.
also the fact that i think i have the wrong ecu is bc of this thread. he said TJ is the series 1 ecu. fact or fiction..

I believe the TJ ECU is a S2 ECU. "Platz808" or whatever from Hawaii is using a TJ ECU in his S2 without problems.
Here's a pic of my S1 ECU and S1 MAF ("G8" code ECU and "J60" MAF)

I could not verify that the cam angle sensors are the same, although I believe Ray @ West Co Nissan saw different part numbers. That's what I would worry about more than anything.

dude i hope so but your the first person who has said otherwise. ive been stressing out this whole time for nothing at all then.
im almost positive cas are the same.
but thanks a lot jordan, exactly what i wanted was someone with personal experience. this has been frustrating.
any more info would be appreciated. yanking the KA out once i get off work and take a nap. hopefully dropping the motor in and wiring tonight/tomorrow so i'll let you know if i break shit.

Jordan you ECU part # is showing is from a 96 which should be a Series 2 i I thought (96-98) or maybe yours was like a chuki? it shows a date of 9601-9606.
I have a Series 1 ECU and the code is "TK" P/N 23710-21U00

Interesting. Harness came with igniter, everything was wired as a Early R33 (S1), and it ran close to perfect. If I still had everything together I'd throw a spare S2 ECU in it to see if they're interchangeable lol.

when i went to JEI to pick an rb20 they were out. got a deal on an rb25 and thats the ONLY reason i got it. now im wishing i wouldve waited for the next container because this shit is a nightmare. nothing but a damn headache. Phil gave me a motorset minus tranny for 1300, traded my KA set for the tranny. thinking, sweet tits, rb25 swap for the price of a 20. using the 20 trans so i dont need a driveshaft and im not running huge power yet. now its like fuck, all this work better pay off.
so far so good though. t belt and water pump recently replaced, no oil leakage ANYwhere. block and pan totally dry, valvetrain nice and clean, dents in pan didnt disrupt anything, bottom ends still tight, and the turbo feels brand new. crossing my fingers for tomorrow when we find out once and for all if my ecu will work.
