I'm currently over seas and coming home for leave. I have a 92 240 with a freshly rebuilt ka24de (did it right before I deployed) I have a complete turbo setup waiting minus tune. I bought a tuned ECU from one company and there was some kind of shipping mix up and its not here. I should be home in ten days and I'm looking for opinions to get this thing running in this time frame.

T25,370cc, stock maf...very basic setup.

All opinions appreciated

There are a few ways you can go-

The ECU flash is getting more common due to its price, though if your setup ever changes you will have to get it re flashed bringing it to the same price range of some piggy backs.

There are piggy back systems that are pretty much plug and play that work well, like the safc neo by apexi.

There is always stand alone systems available and they are the hands down best, but are pricey.

I would suggest the last two, especially if you are going to the extent of going turbo, if you have any more questions please PM me as we have most of these items!

Why are you suggesting a piggy back? Piggy backs are garbage and a waste of money and i yet to see a plug and play piggy back. The SAFC is not pulg and play and needs to be dyno tuned or street tuned not to mention wired in.

Go with the rom or standalone.

save your money and go with standalone in the long run piggy backs and rom tunes takes a chunk of your money away from you.

spend some time looking for a standalone. theres a variety out there and it can help get you where you want and spend less cash.

For your setup I would highly recommend nistune or the mail order rom tune.

I've had personal hands on experience with nistune, powerfc and AEM. Since you have a KA, power fc is out. Nistune will cost you around $400 for the board, the cable and the software. And if you dont know what your doing when it comes to tuning or dont want to know any competent tuner should be able to figure out nistune or go with the mail order tune. For almost everyone nistune/rom tune will be as good as a standalone. Sure, a standalone will have fancy features like anti-lag, two stage rev limiter and auxillary outputs but do you want to pay the premium for these features. With a setup like yours, you probably wont, and then it'd be a waste of money compared to rom tuning. The draw backs to the mail order rom tune are that youll have to send it back in for a retune for future mods affecting the tune and that it wont necessarly be dialed in as good as it could be for your particular car without alot of back and forth using snail mail.

I would also highly recommend you NOT get an safc/emanage, dispite the fact I've never used them, becuase I know they change your actual timing values becuse of the corections they make to the maf signal to get the correct AFR. You have no sure way to know how much timing your running once you've made fuel corrections with the piggy back.

nistune would probably be a great system, its cheaper than stand alone, it has its own forum for questions, and its not a system in quich when u decide ot upgrade, you have to wait for a new chip...u just tune it and go...
