View Full Version : Why is everyone selling their sportmax/xxr's for absurd amounts??????????

So been watching the tires/wheels for sale threads on here and craigslist.
It seems that every joe schmoe and the likes are selling their 15x8+0 curbed bald tired set of 002/513/007/abc's for $320+.
I feel the urge for everyone to just call Travis at 88 rotors and buy a new set for $320.
Seriously! "$340 is the lowest I will take!" on like every for sale thread.
What the frick are these 'ballers' smoking?
I understand the $400 price tag for 80% tires all around on 16x8+0's. But not the aforementioned..........foreshame!!!!
Thus introducing the lowballers enforcement of reasonable prices/offers on XXR Sportmaxxo's.
Guhhh

its supply and demand...people demand said type of rims, others will supply, depending on the shortage of suppliers and demand rate...prices will be set accordingly...

I sold my sportmaxes for $400 with brand new Falkens on them... Well, the fronts anyway. Considering the wheels brand new were $400, I don't think that's too much/

under $500 mark is where it's at now. Have you seen the new XXR 521s? I'll be ballin' once I have them on my cube.

You are crying about knockoff wheels that are cheap. And you are crying about wanting them cheaper?

$400 for a set of wheels and tires IMO is a good price.

How about saving up for something better? Modding cars isn't a race.

Or how about saving up for paint and make your wheels a normal color; assuming it is like your sig.

Save ur pennies and filter these "cheap expensive" wheels from ur sight.

Woah are you serious? When you use them for track duties that might happen, but how about for daily normal traffic use?

I have seen Enkies and Racing Dynamics do the same thing, well that is after they hit a car or something on the track.

If you hit your car on one of the concrete walls that surround a track, it does not matter if you are using VOLKS, WELDS or ROTAS. That shit is going to get FU'ed Up, it only matters on the depth of your pocket.

Can Enkies/Volks/Works get damaged? Yes. Will they shatter into a million pieces and collapse on themselves like Rotas? No.

i doubt the guys at drift works "needed" a rim sponsor or a cool japanese brand of wheel wouldn't mind sponsoring them. the FACT is....is THAT particular s15 is getting driven hard and have any of its rims exploded?....

I agree with the OP.

People if you buy wheels that RETAIL for <$500 They're not worth almost the same amount once they're used.

Especially if they're curbed up and shit.

True That!!!!!
That's exactly what I've been saying. I agree they are cheap to begin with, yes, but when you sell them used, 1 curb scratch, dirt tires, no they dont deserve to be priced at a new cost, especially here on Zilvia, where we have the coolest sponsors and vendors with hella great deals. Then these guys are trying to cut into their business by selling used cheap rims at new cheap rim prices. Cut it out, it is what it is. Yes. just sell that shit on Craigslist and rip those people. Not this cool, "in the know" community that we call Zilvia.
Thanks guys.

You missed the argument completely.

Lets put it this way.

The standards at Rota and Sportmax are not at the level that other reputable wheel manufacturers have them. In addition their Quality Control is not very strict. It is obvious that they are not using the best materials either. The sum of both of these things equates to a high failure rate in the production batches. I wouldn't be surprised if it was upwards of 10%. That S15's wheels are holding up? Great. It doesn't fall into that percentage. Doesn't mean that it inspires confidence in me buying a Rota after all the other cases that I've seen.

In the end, you get what you pay for.

Tell the people who have destroyed rotas and sportmaxx to lay off the curbs. sportmax is cool for me I don't have to spend 1000 on gramlights like I once did. now I can get like 4 sets of rims for the price of 1 set of gramlights

rotas aint that bad, and it dont hurt my pocket as much when i break or damage a rota...

as appose to braking or damaging Gram light or Work wheel :)

and as for the OP's question i been trying to figure that out too. Back in 06 i sold a set off all 4 rims with two good front tires for 150 bucks. that sounded fair to me for some used sportmax's. Brand new the rims shouldn't be anymore than 400 bucks. i dont see how ppl are trying to sell them for more than that used ????

All cast wheels will crack under about the same circumstances, whether it's a rota or an xd9 or gram lights or oem or whatever. Forged wheels don't crack, they bend, but they can certainly bend to the point of being beyond repair.

Cheapo cast wheels make sense for track/drift days, because who wants to fuck up their nice wheels? I personally wouldn't run them daily just because of their ubiquity, I don't want what's on a million other cars.

also I'd imagine a regular track car doesn't go throught the absuse of a daily.
don't have to deal with such bad driving conditions (no pot holes on the track).
you don't drive for prolonged durations in general.

Lot of the track guys use rotas (and other affordable cast wheels).
They seem to work out just fine.
When & if I opt for track wheels on my 240sx, you can bet I won't spend more than $1k.

I had used Rotas on my old CRX daily beater for about 3 years before they got stolen.
Worked out no issues whatsoever for me during the time.
