Sup fellas,

so recently my duel cam ka started to throw white smoke. It doesn't do it all the time it only does it every once in a while like after coming out of a stop, or in a drive thru (female was cute...was embarrassing)... it also seems to do it more when i turn on my A/C. I checked the coolant and it only went down about half an inch, however my oil went about 2 1/2 quarts low. My first guess is it could be the head gasket. what do you guys think?

thanks in advance:bigok:

its obviously head gasket, maybe you also have some oil getting past your rings.

White = hg
blue = oil
black = death

You can usually tell coolant by the smell it makes too. You should also do a compression test.

check ur spark plugs all of them if theres oil on them u could have a bad piston ring but for sure sounds like head gasket if u over heat it and drive it
the head could
GET IT FIXED!!!!

White smoke is coolant, blue/black is oil... could be a lot of things that cause that problem tho. Your going to have to pull the block most likely to be sure of the problem

oi...its not always a head gasget

it could be a combination of things...my best guess is your piston rings are getting old and youre getting a small amount of blow by...pull your spark plugs and check the tips...if theyre oily...your piston rings are going bad and its time for a bottom end rebuild...if theyre white...well youre running really lean and if theyre black youre running too rich (which is very common on OLD motors like the KA and can cause small amounts of smoke as well)

check the smell of it...if anything i bet you your burning a little oil (the smallest amount of oil creates HUGE HUGE plumes of smoke)...i wouldnt worry too much about it

and btw guys (just judging from the answers)...if his headgasget was bad and leaking...his car would be overheating like crazy...within a few minutes of him starting it

check ur spark plugs all of them if theres oil on them u could have a bad piston ring but for sure sounds like head gasket if u over heat it and drive (http://zilvia.net/f/#) it
the head could

actual GOOD advice right there :D

thanks dorkidori_s13 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/dorkidori_s13.html) and the rest of the peps for taking time to respond
your right it is going to be oil cause my coolant isn't running out that much but my oil is going low a lil bit and my car isn't leaking any oil. i checked the spark plugs and i do have a little bit of oil in the 4th cylinder

go get compression test do both wet and dry,If you do wet and compression is low still this is usually a sign of headgasket especially if two nehboring cylinders are low,I would also do a cylinder leak down test to conform it.

sounds like i have the same problem on my bone stock KA with 245k. low oil level, blows smoke from a stop, but not after 30 min. (thinking worn rings might take a while to warm up and seal? a bit too long...)

i'll pull my plugs tomorrow.

might be time to toss in my SR... :naughty:

Oil can also get into the combustion chamber from leaking valve seals and/or worn valve guide.

If an when you replace the headgasket replace your thermostat as well just so that way you dont have to do it at a later time unless you just replaced it literally not too long ago. The nismo store sells em for like 65 bucks I think.

What I'm thinking by when he's saying it's happening.
