View Full Version : Exhaust fitment problem

I just bought a 3" cat back exhaust with test pipe. Everything fits great however where the 2 1/2" header outlet meets the 3" test pipe there is an exhaust leak. I read on here that a 3 in. exhaust was ideal for NA KA's however after some more research I found out after I bought it that 3 inch is stupid and shifts power-band up etc. I'm pissed that I didn't investigate more but eventual plans are to boost it anyways. So the leak is starting to get annoying. I put the supplied gasket but it still leaks. Any Ideas on what I could do to fix this issue besides welding them together? Don't really want to weld them so I can sell the header later and my future dump pipe will bolt on to the test pipe. Thanks for any ideas.

Either cut/weld to make it fit or sell the 3" and get a 2 1/2

Lol well that's the easy solution. lol. But it doesn't make sense to sell it to buy 2 1/2 only to buy 3 in later.

take it to a muffler shop and let them fix it. it should be easy and cheap.

Hmm I guess lemme rephrase it. Can I fix this issue with putting another gasket on turning the pipe a certain way or should I just grin and bare it. I don't really want to take it to an exhaust shop. I don't want to really alter the piping in anyway

Are you running stock headers and downpipe?

No aftermarket OBX header and Aftermarket test pipe.

Lol. Set on fire. That'd be an easy fix.

are you sure thats were the leak is? you may have left one of the original gaskets on were the manifold attaches.

- check to make sure your flanges aren't bent where the leak is.
- use copper rtv gasket maker if anything
* I use the copper rtv maker for mine, my flanges are fuuugged it I get no leak if properly applied

Get a better gasket and try again. Make sure exhaust is centered.

Nope it's the 3 inch gasket that is supplied with the kit. I will try this weekend to take it off and hopefully recenter it. I was so excited about the exhaust that I just threw it on and go. It is leaking though right from that part as I parked it over sand and the exhaust is actually blowing the sand around under that part.
