Rb20detboy

so basically I got an rb20det motor in my 240 with a really bad battery drain. figured out the battery drain was caused by engine control unit fuse in the engine bay. so the ECU in my car was always staying on even if the car was turned to off.
so I wired in a switch to my ignition switch which is I believe pin 45 on the ecu. I spliced into it and made an on/off switch so everytime I get out of the car I switch the ecu switch to off and back on to start the car. the drain went away,
but now everytime I drive for over 5 minutes my first coil pack towards the front bumper keeps melting and going bad on me.
do you guys think its my switch that could be causing this? its just a switch for the ignition, i dont understand why it would cause the coil pack to melt. the only work I did before the coil pack started melting was installing this on/off switch for the ECU, and installing an rpm gauge by using pin 7 and connecting it to pin 49 with a 10k transistor. I also regapped my spark plugs to .8 if that makes any difference. if it is my ecu causing this to happen because of my switch what do you guys recommend doing in order to turn off the ecu when the car turns off other then installing a switch?
