Anyone know about truck z24 engines?

Does anyone know anything about z24 truck engines? I seen a guy driving a 1987 pick-up with a z24 4 cyl. engine, and it hauls balls! I think he runs like 13's. I have the same truck and was wondering if anyone knew what things I can do to adda few HP to my puppy.

I'd ask him what he did..

First of all, a 4 cyl 8 valve 8 sparkplug engine with 103 horsepower pushing an aerodynamically challenged truck ain't gonna happen without some super mods.

Even with boring, port and polish, intake , headers, exhaust, and a 4 barrel with manifold...you are only up to like 180hP and you will need close to 340 at the rear wheels to get that. It is not a high rever, 4800 RPM is the useable ceiling. Touquey it is but stock only a shade over 130 ft lbs.

You should ask him for an extensive list of mods and come back and report it to us. I suppose he has some sort of nitros.

The engine is a good low end torquer but not a high rever. Mid 13's seems rather impossible unless something major league has been done.

I had the 84 king cab with 4X4 and mine took almost a min to go from 70 to 95.

I don't know much about the z24 engine but I know who ever said you would need 340 horse power to push a truck that weighs about two thousand pounds to run thirteens is horribly mistaken, considering a stock ls1 powered z28 ss will run a 12.98 in the quater! think about power to weight ratio there! I've seen some modded z24 nissans and 22r toyotas run thirteens and not be putting anywhere near 300 to the ground.

A base model hardbody in 1995 weighs 2805 and is aerodynamic as a sheet of plywood.

Was it an engine for '88 - '94? Those years had the 3.1L V6 in the Z24. I had a '93 Z24 Convertible... Very torquey, but absolutely no top end. With an automatic, my best time in the quarter was a 16.991

Z24 has a lot of similarities to the KA24. A lot of the same dimensions, and are related designs.


Maybe that truck was turboed? They are pretty beefy, like the KA.

EDIT: also that engine was used in racing and I think there are parts from nismo to make it fast NA too.
