Hi all,

Where can I get an rb20det with an auto tranny? I found one on directjdm.com but it's in Canada. Is there anyone in the states inporting them? Also what sort of power loss am I looking at? Thanks in advance.

Any shop that imports rb20's can get you one with a auto tranny. You just need to give them a call and request one if there isn't one listed.

I'm not sure what you mean by power loss. The main problem with the automatic is that it shifts so slow (of course) and if it's not modified, it can't handle as much stress as a manual, IIRC. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong. :)

swapping in an RB20 with an auto seems like the most worthless and close to the most expensive swap you can do. if you want to go to all the trouble of swapping in an RB, at least get one of the bigger ones, you start off with more power and have farther to go with mods. if you don't know how to drive stick, learn, it's not that hard and so much more fun and faster. if you just want a powerful automatic car, there are plenty of autos to be had for cheap. add a turbo kit and you're all set.

sorry to be so critical without knowing more about you or your intentions for the car, but it annoyed me a bit.

Hi there,

To start off with. I'm Jamie and I'm from Washinton state. The wife and I have a 89 240sx coupe that is automatic. We are looking at the rb20det swap because it's cheaper and the most important it's different. I was looking at rebuilding the ka24e and auto tranny but the cost would be the same as a swap. So here is the problem. We could sell the auto and look for a 5 speed coupe but the chance of finding a good 5 speed rust free is small. So we are keeping the 89 and doing the swap. The reason why I was looking at an rb20det with an automatic tranny is because I have seen so many supra's that are putting down crazy hp numbers and they are automatic. Also why would an automatic rd20det swap be worthless and close to the most expensive swap out there? I'm looking for feed back. How did the rd20det auto tranny do in the r32? Any probolems or anything? One last thing. Would there be any problems with doing a auto to 5 speed swap for a rb20det with 5 speed? Thanks in advance.

I also forgot to say the car is going to be a daily drive and a show car.

Hi, the power loss is there if a proper torque converter is not set into place. That would be assuming that you would be using any other tranny besides the rb20.

I believe the rb20 AT is 4 speed, so that might be what would throw some people off about the top speed and such. Correct me if i am wrong, was a while back (2 yrs.) when I read about the RB20 AT.
