I know the HKS hi-power is 2.5", and even though Ill be going n/a for a while im not sure if i would want the Apexi N1 dual exhaust system which is 3" piping and which is the probable loss of backpressure for a n/a vehicle....what do you guys think?

i got the duals installed yesterday, so far so good. :coolugh:

depends what kind of look you like. i love the single canister angled look. i have a hiper on my car and i absolutely love it. it's not loud, but rather nice and deep. you have to realize that the n1 dual will be VERY loud n/a. you'll have to consider getting silencers, which are pretty expensive iirc. and i believe the hiper is 2.75" piping. not completely sure about that.

HKS gives you back more power from what i've seen and the duals are a little annoying and drone sounding. they look awesome though.

For a n/a car I would get the HKS, 3 inches (Apexi)is just too large for a fairly stock 2.4L normally aspirated engine. The dual looks really good though :D

HKS all the way, heard alot of bad things about the N1 dual(see the current thread "My new exhaust, must see") ....

I'd go with the HKS, i had an N1 on my previous car and its hella loud....attracts too much bad attention.

Get a HKS 3". 2.4L fills the pipeing nicely.

well you said that you'll be going N/A for a while. i'd still go with the dual N1. it gives you the mid to upper end power. and not for nothing there arent really alot of exhaust companies out there that make the dual N1. it looks awesome and it looks a hell of alot better then the honda guys wxhaust. the HKS is still really cool exhaust also. i guess its more about looks since i mean you'll be going n/a for a while but thinking about turbo. i'd still go with the Dual N1. actually what you should do is what my friend did, and thats, Get the Dual N1's and have a powder coating place coat the exhaust(not the mufflers) red. IT LOOKS SO CRAZY ON MY FRIENDS HATCH! I AM GOING TO DO IT TOO.

I go the dual's and they are not as loud as folks say on a N/a car... they have a nice deep sound... and sound mean at idle.... now that i am boosting they sound a little lees noisy but still good

HKS guys. IMO you can never go wrong with HKS!!

10-10-2004, 10:25 PM
heard both of them, on NA KAs, and SRs, definitely 3inch HKS all the way. Duals eventually sound like crap after extended use.

fuck i wish i could get trust DD. Thems are the shits. But i've been happy with my HKS hiper for a couple of years now. I think its the shit. Its all about apples and bannanas. What ever you prefer. Max hp (hiper) or good mid range grunt (dual n1)

what ever floats your boat.

tough choice. pretty equal right there, but i think i would go for HKS.

HKS HKS!! It has a 4in Canister. When the cop pulled me over (not cause of the exhaust but cause I was driving in the mountain road after midnight :coolugh: )he kept on repeating to me and my friend who happen to have n1 Duals, "That is an aweful big exhaust :eek2: .", he didn't give me a ticket :p . so that was cool. HAHA N1 duals, owned :axe:

Ill take anything over the apexi n1 dual. The exhaust is not good for long term use. I had one that fell apart on me. The tip/tips came off while on the freeway. Cheap welds. Exhaust was about 2 years old when it did it. Sounds nice and looks nice, but quality was disappointing. This is pretty common, also with the single N1.

hks ftw heres what it sounds like on a NA KA, the 80mm piping too :) on my car that is

I love dual n1 style exhausts. So I purchaced their dual's for my s14...

One of my worst decisions.

The fitment it horrible, and the weld are trash.

As for sound quality, I love them. Coupled with my sard torque dampener, they sound so sexy. I just wish they performed the way they sounded.

I'm planning on selling them in the near future so I can purchace a higher quality dual n1 setup.

95Blue240sx
04-18-2006, 09:56 AM
^^^yeah the sound is the best Ive ever heard. When i had them i was using an intake and Hotshot header. Fucker sounded mean! Id get backfires that scared people hahaha. They were good times. I wonder if they would fit in my bumper.

Zar did yours crack or anything?

!Zar!
04-18-2006, 11:03 AM
Mine cracked right were the tips connect to the tube it's self. And one of the hangers broke off.

My car is fairly dumped, and exhaust clearance sucks but I know I didn't bottom out hard on it. So I'm sure it was more of a QC issue than mine. I also forgot to mention I'm running a Megan Racing header, that helps contribute to the sound also.

04-18-2006, 11:29 PM
Apexi poor quality welds and heavy as fuck too. HKS is good they sound really good even after all the abuse, and all the climate conditions they still perform pretty good.

HKS...only had it for about 7 months or so but so far NO COMPLAINTS! Sounds nice on my NA KA. Loud but not too loud to draw unwanted attention. Deep enough tone to set off car alarms at VERY low revs.

I would have to vote for the N1 dual, I have that system on my car and I love it. Sounds great, not too loud and has a nice rumble. And I llike the look better than one big can.

undercoverdjay
06-29-2006, 02:01 PM
Yeah with my N1 when my KA was N/A it was LOUUUD, not a ricey bees in a coffee can loud, but, low, deep, droney, and almost like a streetbike at higher RPMs. It sounded great. After boosting my KA, the exhaust is so damn quiet (3inch DP, 3 inch Test pipe, N1's), like just sounds nice and low, enough for a good rumble, definitely doesnt attract the least bit of attention.

Quality, yea welds do suck. A hanger broke off, the welds are starting to leak aright at the canisters themselves. Exhaust has around, 10,000 miles on it.

580 shipped from enjuku in 2004 and it just seems like it fell apart. I'm still buying another one cause regardless of what it is, people still see a large can exhaust and figure it to be the stereotype 'fart can' the duals just look cleaner

The HKS doesn't hold up as well over a long term period (several years), the internal muffler baffles are notorious for breaking loose & causing a massive restriction with power loss...not a big deal if you feel like replacing the system, but typically it happens when the piping is still in good shape.

Does the single N1 sound somewhat similar to the dual? The reason I ask is because a local guy has one that I might be getting and I love the sound of the N1 dual.

+1 for HKS Hi-per. I have the 65MM version, wished I would have gotten the 80MM than. I've had mines for 3 years, and yes, it's HOLDING UP for all those who said HKS doesn't last. The one's who said it doesn't last probably lived in the northern part of the US, where the SNOW is, that's what happen, it wasn't the exhaust.

Again. +1 for HKS Hi-per.

my co-workers both have s13's. one with apexi and the other has hks. the hks has a very deep rumbly tone close to a wrx w/ just a muffler. nice and deep, throaty. the apexi sounds more towards the honda end of the scale but is still nice and rumbly. i prefer the hks cuz it sounds less like a can of bee's

duals suck... i have it, its the most amazing sounding exhaust, but the quality is crap, its overweight, and mild steel blows... one of the welds is broke, and there are another two on the way... its just all around crap...

sounds amazing tho, if your not beatin your car, and your roads arent bumpy, go for it.. i dont qualify for either

Can you get the HKS Hi power 80mm for a n/a KA? Most sites I looked at have it listed as for the SR but does it really matter? Is the piping all bent the same?
