HELP! can someone help me out. i'm just doing some research before i make my final decission on what motor to buy...i want to run a sr20det, but if i can fit a rb20det then i'll go with that....but does anyone know about the differences....i know a sr is a inline 4 compared to the rb20 a inline 6....what i want to know exactly is; 1) is the motor mounts same or different? 2) will i have to use the harness from the rb20 clip?
sorry but i hope you guys get what i'm trying to get at....please help me out......

Why do you even want an RB20? You don't sound like you know why you want it.

1. Different, you will have to use the A31 Cefiro/Laurel motor mounts.

2. Yes, you will have to use the RB20 harness.

The RB20DET is NOT a direct bolt in, and will require custom mounts, and wiring, and custom intake piping, etc... Remember this is a Skyline motor, not a S-chassis motor.

I did some searching for you. READ this thread!!!! There's 5 pages of it so read it all!! :D

EDIT: if you really want an RB20DET you could just buy that guys car 1990 240sx with RB20DET (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29239)

Actually, (assuming you were being sarcastic) while I was doing some searching for you (since I guess you can't do it) I found that, a direct quote from one of the other members here trying ot answer another noobs exact question. I never assume anyone (espcially a newbie) knows even the simplest of things. I don't know who you are or what you know about Nissans so I thought I'd make sure you knew where the engine is coming from and why it is not a direct bolt-in. It was never designed for the S-chassis.

Anyway, I think all of your above questions have been answered. If you have anymore, plase feel free to post them.

PS- I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything just trying to help and help you not to get burned...I'm actually surprised someone else has already flamed you like crazy! :D

You do NOT REQUIRE custom mounts. I have spoken with Nismo241 at length. he chose to go with those custom mounts, but they arent required. I am prepping my 240 as I type this and I have no plans of using custom mounts as of now. I am using the R32 crossmember and mounts. Several people I have spoke used the r32 crossmember and ajoing mounts. The wiring is as easy if not easier than the SR20 wiring. Read Nismo241 write up. Custom intake piping.......never heard of that either.

hahah, thats what I get for quoting a member here from an older post. Maybe he meant custom intercooler piping.

I don't know what you want so I am just giving you some advice. Don't go with a RB20 unless you have money to blow because it is not worth it. An SR can serve you better power for the dollar than what it would take to spend the time swapping an RB. Plus if you go with the SR your car will be lighter than VS an RB. and it is better weight wise for drifting.

If you read the unstable-hybrids (http://www.unstable-hybrids.com/) FAQ sheet you would know that the RB engines only weight appozimately 50-75 lbs more than the KA24DE. Which shouldn't make that much of a difference....

Yeah, also you could offset some of that weight by purchasing an odyssey 13lb. battery, shaving about 20lbs. and other unneeded goodies. I don't really advocate the RB20, just giving some extra hints.

LOL okay...

RB20 starts with MORE HP and cost over a thousand LESS, how is that a waste???? Sure it isnt an RB25, but the money saved can be used to rebuild the enigne, or upgrade to bigger turbo, etc. Just because the parts arent as accesible, doesnt mean the RB20 is worthless. This is probably the most ignorant thing I have read today. IF you are going to say why someone should choose an SR20 over an RB20 give hard facts to back up that claim. So far I have spent:

1200 for front clip
636 shipping
25-misc fluids nad an fluid pan to drain my KA and RB
30-boost guage
15-other misc guages

soon to come
electric fans-300 (dual fanbs puching 2780 CFM with thermostat)
fuel pump- 95

If all goes well I should be running for less than you pay for a SR20 clip unshipped

spec, do u have a 240SX? did u buy the mountings that are required?

Yeah I have 1990 fastback SE. I am using the R32 crossmember and mounts from the clip. I will get custom mounts eventually to lower the engine. I am going to check out mckinney motorsports while I am in Cali visiting family (they live like 5 min from my wife's mom's house). There are issues witht he RB20 or RB25 for that matter. Nothing that can't be fixed. Most people say the 20 is worthless when yo ucan get the 25, but it depends on you power goals. 325-350rwhp is MORE than enough for me. That is beating about 85 of what is on the road in ym town. Besides I have no intentions on taking this hobby too far. Too much money involved. IF you have super high goals, get a 25. I hear RB20 is good for 400 or 500 on stock bottom end.
