I just did my vlsd install. It was pretty easy, and lots of fun! My friend owns his own shop so I paid him to let me use it (and help me... though i didn't need it). Once I had it on the lift, it was great. I thought it would be much harder than it really was. :D

Although if you don't have access to a lift, the install would be very difficult.

Here's how it went... step by step:

Before you do anything make sure you change your diff fluid!

1. unbolt the for bolt on the rear of your stock open diff.

2.unbolt the drive shafts from the open dif.

3 unbolt the coupling (at the front of the open diff.) from the drive axle.
4. remove the open diff. (I didn't have to remove the sway bar) rock the diff forward... then tilt the front down and remove.
5.I then had to replace the vlsd cover with my stock open diff cover.
6. remove both wheels, and the cotter pins.(observe how your cotter pin is bent as you should bend the new one the same)
7. remove drive shafts.

8. stick the new drive shafts in place and install the cotter pins.

9. Place the vlsd in place (align the for bolts on the back of the vlsd) This can be a difficult step if you don't have a tranny jack!

10.align the drive shafts in place.

11. bolt everything back just the way you removed them!

I might have forgotten a few things.... so if anyone has anything to add, feel free.

I love the vlsd and would highly reccomend it! If anyone has any questions... just ask! Hope this helps- cheers

ps- sorry guys... I didn't take any pics.

What did you add for fluid, royal purple, red line, motul or an LSD additive?

No special fluid needed - The OEM Nissan VLSD is a selaed unit, and requires not extra additives or special fluids to operate.

Just good 'ole 80W-90 gear oil, GL-5...1.5 liters.

Sorry to get back so late, sleep is good to ya! On the contrary, it does not require, but can be changed just for grins. Since he had the diff on its side, it would have been a good idea to change the fluid cause it can sometimes get dirty. Sealed unit??? Did I miss something? The statement says sealed, then talks about adding some 80W-90 gear oil?

Just stating some helpful insights.

The Viscous LSD (the actual part on the inside of the diff) is sealed, so you do not need LSD additives to make it work, as you would with other clutch-type aftermarket diffs...

You missed the meaning of my post.

The differential casing is not sealed - It has a fill and drain hole...I think that's obvious.

No, I completely understood what you said, so don't condescendingly shoot your unneeded sarcasm, please. I know about your little F.A.Q. and did not wish to send an e-mail telling you otherwise, since you are here on the board. You couldn't possibly be referring to this drain thingy :D HaHa

I just made you detail your post for newbs that have no idea what ur talking about. I never said to make it work you needed to add anything. I simply suggested changing and adding, "JUST FOR GRINS". Read my freakin post.

Sorry for messing the forum up guys, I apologize. I may have overreacted, just don't appreciate the misunderstanding and crap posting thing. M. :bite:

Hello,

Dousan- Thanks for the info! I thought it wouldn't fit with the jdm cover.... I measured them and it seemed a little tight. Also Kenji (gspeedcorp.com) told me to switch the covers????? If it fit than I don't know why? Neway will it make a big difference? too late now anyway!
:(

And no... I just put "good old 80w-90 gear oil"!!!:D - cheers
