Okay, I went out tonight with a friend and tried to learn how to at least initiate a drift, and didn't have much luck. We have a pretty good spot to practice in, a huge church parking lot, (and my friend knows the guy who lives there as a caretaker, so we're in the clear to us the lot.)
Here's the deal: No matter what I tried to do to upset the car, it would push horribly. About the only way I could get the rear to come out was to hit a really low speed turn around, and clutch kick it in first, but as you know, this isn't the best way to drift, it causes more of a dramatic fishtail.
After this didn't work, I started trying to initiate the rear to slide by running the car on a mocked-up skidpad course, and even then the only way to get the rear to come around was a severe clutch kick, which resulted in an uncatchable spin!
Here's the set up on the car: '89 fastback, '95 j30 diff, agx/whitelines, f/r strut bars, and 195/60-15 avs intermediates in the front, with 195/60 bald-*** dunlops on the rear. I had the fronts fairly soft, (2 clicks,) and the rears fairly stiff,(7 clicks,) but I just couldn't get it to work out!
I'm majorly frustrated here, so any useful input would be appreciated!
Thanks,
-Ben
